Are Henry's blued, painted or other?
The blueing on my H001T is flaking off.

Looks like the tangs maybe painted also?
I just scraped the black off the Modle # and serial # area with my finger nail.

That is disturbing to me, Have been thinking about buying one of the H001's but would never buy a rifle with a "painted" receiver. At a local gun show recently I was looking at them and that is what I thought I saw. Seller didn't know when I asked.

The rifle still shoots great. Never had a mechanica issue with it. And still much less than a used marlin.
Still gonna be a family heirloom.
I've been doing a detailed comparison between a '58 marlin 39A and this Henry.
I'm finding more similarity than difference.

Bluing is an oxidizing process used on steel. Henry rimfire receivers are an alloy.

I looked at one once and It appeared to have some type of baked on enamel.
Some keyboard time might reveal the correct answer.

This will cure the problem off the paint peeling off your 001T. Strip it all off and make it look better. You can even make it look a 100 years old like Sir Henry did his.

The receiver and barrel band on the H001's are painted - everything else is blued. Your receiver paint shouldn't be flaking off like that. You could touch it up with some paint (i.e. Birchwood Casey Super Black Gloss) or maybe contact Henry to see if you can get a new receiver.....

Was just looking again at my Henry catalogue and noticed that all models except the 22's give a receiver finish.

It is black paint that is too soft to have been baked on.

Same thing can happen with the brass lite coating used on the brass versions of the rimfire.
