I'd like to remove the red painted .357 from my magazine tube, without damaging the finish. Has anyone successfully done this?
Thank you in advance.

I own a Henry H006M (.357 Brass Big Boy rifle), but the magazine tube has no such marking. I did not know the carbine was different.

_WELCOME!_.jpg
Just checked my Henry .357 Carbine, which I bought in May 2018, and was made in Rice Lake, WI. There is no "red-painted .357" markings on mine. Almost sounds like an anomaly, unless other Folk have it on their Henrys?
Now to send you Greetings as a new Forum member, Harvey. Glad you joined and brought another .357 Henry on board, too!
Enjoy your time here....'tis a good group on the HRF.

Ditto to PT7. My 357 carbine has no markings as described. Is it on the blued portion? Or the brass? Not sure of remover, nail polish remover?
Good luck, someone here will come through for you. Welcome to the forum.

I think I would just paint over it with black.

Holding a cotton ball with Hoppe's #9 solvent for a few minutes might soften it enough to be able to scrape if off with a finger nail or pop cycle stick.
Judicious use of a heat gun might soften the paint too, but use a stick to scrape it not your finger

It's on the outside of the tube. Every Henry in the store had it on them. Mine's in red, and I seem to recall the .44 mags were in yellow.

I'll try Hoppe's first because I love the smell. Thanks for reminding me about the heat gun. I've got a motorcycle with a tire size/chain guard issue I need to resolve. I meant to do it this weekend, but forgot about it.

Select the "
Full Editor & Preview" Window to post your image and message. At the bottom of that window, select the "
Attachments Tab", then the "
Add Files Tab". Locate your file on your hard drive and upload it. You can add a caption if you like and then select to "
Place Inline" to place the photo where your cursor is located in the message. Photos display best if they conform to the 4:3 aspect ratio; that is, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, etc. Good luck.

Spray it down with Ballistol and then Fine brass wool will rub that right off and not hurt the blueing.

Ah! Sounds like the markings were placed there by the LGS. Red for .357 mag, yellow for .44 mag. I would just contact the store and asked them if they put them on the rifles. If yes, just find out what they used and you should know better how to remove it.
Let us know what, if anything, you find out....and how you resolved.

I’d try some acetone on a q tip...soak it well and then try to rub off with a popsicle stick. It does look awful...

Holy Moly! That definitely wasn’t done by Henry!
I thought maybe someone had just painted in on the small barrel stamped caliber.
Good luck getting that eyesore removed.
Are you sure it is paint and not a well applied sticker?
I just can’t imagine a gun shop taking the time to panic multiple rifles like that.

At the bottom of the page, next to the "Submit" button is a "Full Editor and Preview" button. Click on that.
Then click on the "Attachments" tab and you'll see where you can add a file.

I've seen some gun stores do idiotic stuff over the years, but this is an extra-special kind of stupid.
A store that thinks selling pre-vandalized guns is a good idea, is NOT a store I'd consider ever patronizing.
