How old is my Big Boy? (Updated to sticky with instructions from Henry)

Post by Mgderf » Sun Jan 21, 2018 1:55 pm

I bought a used Henry Big Boy brass .357 some time back and I'm wondering when it was born.
How do I "date" my Henry?
Model H006MR
Serial BBR004***M

Thanks

O.K. I contacted Henry and got my answer. BOY was I surprised!

Several months ago, back in August, I was lucky enough to receive my new Big Boy steel in .327Fed/mag and fell in love all over again.
I was already the proud owner of two other Henry's, but this one seemed special somehow.
So, now I have three Henry's, a standard Hoo1 .22lr, an Hoo1T .22wmr, and the .327.

I went to my local indoor range to sight in the new .327 and something behind the counter caught my eye.
There was a Big Boy brass receiver .357mag on the rental rack.
I tried ignoring it for a couple of weeks, but it kept calling my name.
I broke down and asked how much.
I'm a permanent fixture in this range. I do repair/remodeling work for them, have volunteered as R.O. on occasion...
They told me they'd let it go for $500 out the door.

It sounded just a tad higher than I'd hoped, but it was in great condition so I said yes.
I brought home the Big Boy brass in November of 2017 and hadn't really messed with it until last week.
I decided I needed a hammer spur for it, so I went shopping.
I found one that said it fit all Big Boys produced in 2010 or later.

Thus my original post, "How old..."
Well, Patrick, from Henry customer service just emailed me to tell me my .357 Big Boy was born on 12-22-16!
It was less than 1 year old when they sold it to me for "used"
It's in great shape, with one minor mark on the butt stock.

I'm just floored that they were willing to sell when it was only a year old.
Maybe it just didn't rent well...

Mgderf and everyone else.

I'm glad you got your answer. I contacted Dan from Henry after SHOT show was over. He said you can email Henry or call them at 201-858-4400.
They will give you the exact date the serial number was stamped into the receiver. Dan said they do this all the time.

I had the same question on mine. Got is used on yesterday and sent the serial number in to Henry and got a reply back this morning. By the way, I thought I got a great deal on mine at $600, but you got a super sweet deal. DOB on mine: 2/16/16.

A man, without force, is without the essential dignity of humanity. Human nature is so constituted, that it cannot honor a helpless man, although it can pity him; and even this it cannot do long, if the signs of power do not arise.

As mentioned here earlier this week, I bought a used Henry BB Classic .357 for $600 OTD. Fella at Henry said mine was made Nov 2016. How about that? I pick it up tomorrow.
