I have a Savage 99-358 that my late friend bought for me new in the early eighties while they were still making them. I helped him move from Waycross Ga. to Lakeland Fl. which I would have done a hundred times because he was a good friend and the person that got me into guns , shooting and reloading. He said "I want to buy you a good hunting rifle what do you want". I had a Winchester 71 348 so I said "Savage 99 in .358". And that's how I got the rifle that I still have and will most likely be with me until my last breath. By the way .357 jacketed pistol bullets make dandy pest loads in the .358.

Would love to see an o/u, 30/30 over 20 gauge, if it could be made around 7.25 lbs. A .308/20 gauge would be even better!

An upgraded U.S. Survival Rifle AR-7 with a picatinny rail, fibre optic from sight, graduated lines on the rear sight with a line on the receiver so zero can be achieved by re-aligning the graduations when changing from the small to large peep sight and a modified receiver that allows the bolt handle to be pulled out slightly when the bolt is open so it acts as a bolt hold open but prevents the bolt handle from being fully removed in this position.

Also add how to bore sight the rifle using the rear sight screw to the owners manual to share the knowledge.

I get what your saying, but since it is an Evil Roy “signature model”, they sure aren’t going to remove his signature from it.

I’d be in for an O/U combo gun. But it needs to be good looking like a nice Italian O/U shotgun or Ruger No. 1. The Henry single shots are butt ugly. My choice would be .30-30 over 20 or .410. It’s not like you’re going to be using it for long range shooting. Putting a scope on would take away its shotgun practicality, so a 200 yard cartridge would be adequate.
