HENRY SINGLE SHOT SHOTGUNS - Have most of the

HENRY single shot shotguns been shipped out to the stores across the country yet? Our favorite and most used store for selling/buying firearms. etc. has not seen one yet. We want to use our full in store credits at that store since we sold a lot of our guns in the last few years. We don't want the cash - only the goods. Plus we like to deal with our favorite gun store FFL man.

My husband is putting his last and only shotgun on consignment this week. It is a 12 gauge - Remington Model 870 Marine Magnum shotgun. I was thinking about a single shot shotgun for him since he will only use it a wee bit compared to his rifles and his last 2 handguns.

I was looking at the HENRY .410 for him in blued steel/walnut.

The website says that the STEEL single shot shotgun ships in JULY.

I will have to call some stores in town to see of they finally got one in stock so that he can SEE and HOLD one FIRST. I need his opinion on how it FITS and suits him. Plus if he really wants to still OWN and shoot a shotgun.

What is the SHELL LENGTH for this .410 single shot shotgun? I couldn't find it on the HENRY WEBSITE. Thank you!

I had an E-mail conversation with some folks at Henry last week, regarding the blued single shot rifles. Based on that, which should also apply to the shotguns, they're just now going into production, with shipping to distributors at the end of the month, or early in August. They've mentioned unspecified delays in getting the line of single shots out - I'd guess demand for some of the other new models released earlier has something to do with it. Personally, I'm waiting on a 45-70 blued steel version, that I've already ordered (and paid for). Henry's sending me some stuff for my patience . I do hope the rifle arrives by fall, even my patience can be exhausted .

Most all 410 shotguns except the lever actions are chambered for the three inch shells that Winchester brought out many years ago.

Travlin is correct. I failed to mention that the 3" chamber is shown in the .410's specs on the web site, you just have to "click" on the .410 for them .

Thanks and I did click on the .410 steel/walnut one and it still doesn't show it on their link tonight BUT it does show the 3" shell size on their .410 brass/walnut link.

I should have looked on the steel AND brass links even though I think that my husband would like the blued steel one.

I have got a few other questions please.

For those of you who did own or still own .410 single shot shotguns as mentioned above in some other company brand names... what was your favorite .410 FACTORY brand ammunition and .410 'load' for general plinking or for any other use?

Side note: He had FACTORY 12 gauge shotgun shells for various purposes and they were in Remington, Federal and Winchester brands. Buckshot, slugs, managed recoil shells and so forth. I did get this factory ammo together for a gift for his best friend within the last couple of days.

My husband quit reloading for his former fancy and plainer shotguns long BEFORE I knew him and they were in some famous brand names and in various gauges. I never saw those older shotguns but I heard about them. He sold all of his shotgun reloading equipment. (He still reloads for his 2 handguns and for his rifles.)

He will only buy factory ammo IF he gets this HENRY single shot shotgun.

My other question is this HENRY designed like some of those other single shot shotguns?

My late husband and I never owned a shotgun. I only shot a few shotguns in my life.

The Henry single shot shotgun is designed a lot like the recently discontinued Harrington & Richardson/New England Firearms guns. They also used a standard receiver design for both rifles and shotguns. A major difference is that the Henry opens by an "old school" pivoting lever, like a double gun, rather than the push down lever of the H&R/NEF guns. The Henry also appears to be a bit more refined in receiver shape, and has Walnut furniture with checkering on the blued version, fancier Walnut on the brass one. They didn't set out to make them as cheap as possible, which I, for one, like. I had a .410 H&R Topper when I was 10 (56 years ago ), which had nicely blued steel and plain Walnut, and later, at 12, had a 30/30 Topper, with an additional 20 ga. barrel, also blued steel and Walnut. They weren't finished as well as the Henry appears to be, though. I'll have to get my hands on one to confirm it, soon, I hope. The brass .410 will tempt me, too .

Older H+R's used the same type of lever that Henry is using. Never ones have the thumb push. I have no idea when they changed though.

I don't know, either. For sure before the '60's. Most other companies making single shots (Win., Stevens, Iver Johnson, etc.) used that pivoting type of lever, too. There are some others that used a trigger guard location, also. Henry's is how it should be, I think, improved in that it works either way, rather that just to the right.
