Greetings - I have just purchased a Henry Big Boy - they say on the Henry site , Safe for Lefties, however, there is not data or comments from owners on how lefties find it to shoot a Henry.

I have the .45 cal Big Boy, I will be shooting it in a few weeks, (waiting for gun club membership to start, end of April) and wanted to find out what other lefties have experienced.

In the past the only rifle I found was what I would call safe for Lefties is a .22 rifle that I have, and on the same note, still very hard to find rifles made for left handed shooters and when you do they cost too much.

So, feedback from left handed owners, what do you think of Henry and firing it from the left.

Welcome to the forum from Alberta! Interesting, I'll be watching to see what the lefty's say. You'll like that rifle, she's a real fun caliber.

I'm left handed, and no problems at all with my 45 Colt big boy steel or my H001. There are no 'throw spent casings into your eye' issues, if that is your concern. The lever cycled action and the tube magazine loading are about as ambidextrous as it gets.....and that is because Henry is wise enough not to put a loading gate on the right (wrong) side of the gun

I'm a lefty, and one good reason to own and shoot lever guns is they're excellent ambidextrous guns. Henry rifles are no exception. You need to buy a bunch of them.

Welcome from Texas. I'm also a Lefty. I have an Evil Roy .22 and a H001 in 45 Long Colt. They are very accurate and I have had no issues with thrown brass or lever work. Just a smooth and reliable rifle. Buy as many as you can!

Shooting a rifle left-handed has disadvantages and one good advantage. If its a bolt action or semi-auto it is far more difficult to work the action as a lefty. On some rifles you can get brass back in the face. An AR15 comes to my mind most about flying brass because you are going to get a lot of it in your face.

The biggest advantage is that most ejection ports are on the right side and shooting left-handed you can see any problems loading or jamming. With a lever action such as a Henry you don't get brass back in the face and because you can see the ejection port it is actually better shooting as a lefty. I can shoot both left and right handed.

I'm not a Lefty but due to eye sight I shoot left handed. The Henry's are great. No issues with brass ejection. I wish I could say the same about a lot of semi auto 22's. Some throw not only brass but hot powder crumbs in your eyes.

Thank you to all who have replied so far, makes me feel much better about the purchase and taking this to the range, will provide my own experience with the .45 Big Boy shortly.

Shooting any weapon left handed, pistol or rifle, you have the advantage of seeing into the chamber. As long as the brass doesn't hit you you are fine. The Henry is an ambi design because it is not shouldered during loading. These are some reasons I bought mine.

good points .... happy to have you join our forum .... I'm not a lefty so I don't have a pony in this race .... I have both tube and side gate feeders and I do like them both .... if I had to pick only one, I'd go with the tube fed design .... please take a look at our How Many ? thread (link below) and add yours to our community total

A,little late to the post, but I just got my 1st lever, as a lefty I love it. Pretty much lefties have to adapt to what the gun manufactures provide. I practice both left andcriggt hand gun shooting, and I have to say, I am quicker releasing my slide on my glock, with my index finger, than trying to shoot right handed and using the standard controls! My friends watch me load my glock, release the slide with my index finger and drop the mag with the,same finger. All about adapting to what you have

I'm a Lefty and my new H006C Big Boy 45 colt is as safe as it can be with absolutely no concerns for myself !!!

I'm a lefty. I've always shot right hand guns. Never bothered me.
