New Henry with problems

Just got my new Henry 22 mag today. Have not shot it yet. The half cock safety will not work. I followed the directions and watched the video. It will go into safety every so often when starting with the hammer down. It never goes into half cock from fully cocked.

Also the fore end has about 1/16" play in it and slides back and forth. Is this normal?

I called CS but they were closed and took a message.

Thanks

can't speak for a 22 but none of our Henry rifles go to half cock ... the hammer goes from full cock to resting on the transfer bar safety ... play in the for end doesn't sound normal and would be a concern for me .... I suggest you call Henry

The resting on the transfer safety may be what I am talking about. The instructions and video show and say from a hammer down position slowly pull the hammer back until it clicks and the trigger will not pull. I only got this to work once or twice trying many times. Also it says from the full cocked position put your finger on the hammer and pull then release the trigger then slowly lower the hammer until it clicks into safety. This never works and the hammer will go down fully.

Welcome to the forum, I just got my Henry out to refresh my brain on the half cock.
It isn't as noticeable as the half cock on a Colt style revolver where the hammer actually comes back halfway.
With the hammer all the way forward the trigger should have some pull it should be able to move back.
With your finger off the trigger pull the hammer back just a little bit, maybe quarter of an inch. It should click and lock.
With the hammer cocked fully you should be able to press the hammer down with your thumb then pull the trigger and hold it back. Ride the hammer all the way forward with your thumb. Then release the trigger and pull the hammer back just till it clicks.
Always keep the finger off of the trigger when pulling the hammer back.
If it isn't working that way there has to be something out of place with the trigger assembly. It may not be resetting.
The fore end doesn't sound right to me. No play or movement in mine.
Henry has awesome customer service and will make it right.

I just watched the video and noticed from full cock what the video calls safe. It is not the same as the half cock safety. Doing it that way holding the hammer down pulling the trigger then releasing it after allowing the hammer to move forward a little ways. The hammer will come all the way forward. But the trigger locks and can't be pulled. To get it to half cock from there you would have to fully cock it, then do as I posted above. Hold the hammer down pull and hold the trigger and carefully ride the hammer forward. Then release the trigger and draw the hammer back. I don't recommend doing this with the gun loaded.

I have a 22 magnum and what the OP is saying is putting the hammer in trigger lock, I can pull the hammer about 1/8" and it clicks and when done so the trigger cannot be pressed.

Welcome, as stated above, Henry has the best customer service. As far as the loose fore end, it is something that I checked before I purchased my .22 a few months ago. I have read on other forums that this has been a problem that other shooters have encountered with some of the rimfire rifles. Henry will make it right.

Welcome from CT. You've just become the owner of a Henry, which means no worries. CS is unparalleled; you will be a satisfied owner. The forend screw may just need to be tightened to solve the 1/16th movement. My H001 had that issue, too. Push the wood all the way toward the receiver, then tighten the screw.

Neither of the problems is normal. Send you rifle to Henry, They will repair it. Call them and they will send shipping papers.

Agree, tightening the screw may just do it, but don't over tighten it. Another guy put electrical tape under the fore arm when that didn't work and that eliminated the play in the forearm.

No matter the issue Henry CS will take care of you. Try what CT Shooter suggested for the forearm. The screws may not be tight enough, don't over tighten just make sure they are snug. With Thanksgiving tomorrow you may not hear from them today but don't be discouraged. They will get back to you. You could even try and call today again. A tech might be able to talk to you and resolve the issue instead of you having to send it in. If you do have to send it in it won't cost you a dime.

This is what I've found also.

This does not work either.

I talked to CS today and they are sending me a label to send it back. So I am sure they will take care of it.

Bet you have it back in less than two weeks after you ship it back if not sooner.

Ok I got the shipping label from Henry today. UPS ground... My question is can I sent it in the Henry box that is clearly marked as a firearm or do I need to cover that up so it cannot be seen. Also do I need to tell UPS it is a firearm being returned to the factory for warranty repair?

Also when Henry returns it will they ship it to me or a FFL?

Safe from full cocked position with my Henry 22 LRs:
I. Place thumb on hammer.
2. Press trigger until you feel the hammer release from the sear.
3. Let the hammer just slightly forward of this position.
4. Remove your finger from the trigger. (This will allow the sear to be in the safe position if the hammer falls.)
5. slowly drop the hammer until you feel it engage the safe position.

The 22s use the sear and hammer. The center fire uses the transfer bar system. On both of them you stand a chance of firing if the hammer is released suddenly with you finger depressing the trigger. On both while letting the hammer down to the safe position you should not have the trigger pulled for the full distance.

I put my "Henry Box" in an outer box just to protect it during transport, but I do not think it's necessary. That said, you may want to wrap it in brown paper anyway for the same reason. UPS has already agreed with Henry to ship the firearm, so you needn't discuss it with UPS, at all. You will have to bring it to an official UPS facility or a UPS approved drop off (check online to find the best location for you). Finally, when Henry returns it, there will NOT be an FFL involved. It will be shipped from Henry directly to your home. It will require an adult signature receipt, however. Good luck.

Wrap the original box or put it in another box. Henry should have sent you a word document on how to ship. Here is what it looks like.

We bought a brand new in the box Henry 0001L large loop lever carbine as a family Christmas present in November. Getting home we noticed a safety problem with the rifle, and when we told Henry they said the wanted it back, and said they would even send us a new rifle if that's OK, we said that would be fine. My question is how long has a repair or exchange taken for those who have sent rifles in? So far they have had our rifle nearly a month now.
