Has anyone mounted a reflex sight that is low profile enough to co-witness the factory fiber optic sights? I know a mounting plate (thinner than a Picatinny Rail) installs first with two screws.

Not sure why you would want to co-witness with the front sight. The red or green dot reflex sights are self contained and don't rely on the front sight.

I doubt you could find a reflex that would mount low enough without carving out some of the receiver, as is done with pistols such as the optic ready Gen 5 Glock MOS. Holosun makes some pretty low mount red dots. But as Mags said it's kind of pointless since the irons and optics are totally independent sighting systems. You'd be better advised to just get a QD scope if you're thinking about the irons as a backup system.

My understanding is that reflex sights use a clear glass window, and if the optic is low enough, the factory sights will be visible near the bottom of the window…. Or ignore the sights and use the dot only. Two options better than just one?

My thinking... Use the dot stand alone. If the dot battery dies, take it off and use the irons.

Agree with Mags. I use a reflex sight to simplify things. Easier that using irons nothing to line up. Put the dot on the target and pull the trigger. Trying to line all that stuff up just makes it more complicated to me. Ive started using relex sights more and more. I like the way they look on a rifle and its easier for me with older eyes. Green dots are my fav Just put one on a 10/22 and its great to plink with
