I don't know if Henry bore sights these before they leave the factory, but mine took lots of work getting it on target.
It started off six inches high and six inches to the left at 25 yds. Had the rear sight all the way down and kept hammering the front blade over till it centered. Finally got it to print at 100 yds.
I will probably go ahead and scope it for hunting,

So why the disappointment? It sounds like you got it where you need it.

I'm never concerned with the accuracy of a rifle out of the box and never expect it to even be close. I enjoy the process of making it right.

Mine was pretty good out of the box, sorry to hear yours wasn't. Others may have comments.

All I had to do was raise the sight, windage was good from the box !!

Sounds like it worked out?!?

That is my feelings also.

The only time I worry about the factory sighting of a firearm is when it has fixed sights. I would be very disappointed if the sights were off on my model 10.

Why are you disappointed...??? These Henry rifles are rather accurate. If you don't like sighting in a firearm, that's just one of the aspects of shooting a firearm. Some folks get mad when they have to purchase ammo for there firearm. I just don't see why....!!! Anything that deals with a firearm is just plain O fun in my opinion. I'm just looking at the big picture here....so to speak. For any Henry rifle....you get to have your cake and eat it too...!!!

I do have a file, and I know how to use it.

I generally always detail strip a new rifle. I then "redneck bore sight" it.
Basically, remove the bolt, place rifle in a rest and adjust to where the bore is centered on a target at 25m
I then adjust sights to mimic the "boresight" alignment.

Saves a great deal of time and cartridges at the range.
Works for me.......just an idea.

I was very pleased with out-of-the-box groups on both my Big Boy and Golden Boy.

I mechanically zero my iron sights using a bore light...50 yards and I'm done. I use old fashion Kentucky windage to make adjustments as I go.

Slap me naked and call me crazy...but I love the honeymoon period when I first get to know all my new firearms on the range. If someone robbed me of this joy at the factory...I'd be mad about it! My Golden Boy was a little high and to the left and I'm still grinning like a possum #$%@ing persimmons!
In all seriousness, I hope you get it squared away and become happier with every shot sent down range! Keep on smiling! Some people can't even own a rifle where they're from!

If you see the Hickok45 on the Heritage RR, he's nailing the gong and talking about Kentucky windage as NBD on a single action, and somewhat to be expected..............

I would still not be happy having to use Kentucky windage on a fixed sight weapon. Perhaps I would be OK with that on a shotgun used for skeet or trap, but not a weapon I was primarily punching holes in paper with.

Bought my Golden Big Boy 44 mag Friday a week ago & went to the gun range today - shot dead on at the 50 yard without adjusting wind age or elevation. I was quite surprised no adjustment needed, but I have a semi sore right shoulder.

Mine was very close both elevation and windage right out of the box, but due to old eyes, I have since switched to a Skinner rear sight mounted up on the receiver. Even with the peep set as low as possible, I have a 2" error (high) at 25 yds. Taking care of that by buying the right height Lyman 17A.
