Price Comparison: Henry Classic and Ruger 10/22

I was in a lgs the other day and was comparing prices. It seems the Henry Classic is more expensive than the basic 10/22. I was aware the Classic was going up in price over the last 20 years but was surprised to see the 10/22 has a lower MSRP. It’s $405 for the Henry compared to $379 for the Ruger. The Ruger at the lgs was discounted more so the actual price was just under $300 compared to just under $400 for the Henry.

Here a Blued Henry Classic .22 starts at $349.
Large loop Blued Henry Classic .22 starts at 379 for the 16in barrel and 389 for the 18.5in barrel.
The frontier versions start at 449 and go up from there.
Golden Boys start at 529
Silvers start at 599
Tributes and Engraved versions 1000-1500.
Ruger 10/22 start at 250.

Been a while since I've 6 of any Henry in one place.
At $250 I would snatch another Ruger, but I haven't seen 'em that cheap around here.

Holy cow, wasn’t that long ago that 10/22’s could be had for under $200 regularly around here. And one shop would put them on sale for $180.

Pretty hard for a lever gun to compete with a 10/22 in price. Say what you will about the 10/22, it is a masterpiece of modern production engineering. It's a simple, robust design that requires virtually no hand fitting or complicated engineering or machining.
As for the Henry, I am hugely grateful that Henry is continuing to make lever guns and trying to keep them affordable for the average shooter. That's no small feat in this day and age of the autoloader.

I agree with all that, but
the availability of the Henry of late, SUCKS.
Not that I'm lookin for one, but just noticing the none existence of stock Anywhere...

Sorry to hear that. Hope it's just temporary. I'm not in the market for any lever gun right now, so I haven't been keeping up on the market.

I see lots of Henrys around here. Might be that they are made in Rice Lake which is just down US8. A new plant is being built in Ladysmith which is even closer.

Many h015's on GB can be had for 315$. But you have to add tax, shipping, and FFL fees.

Gee, I remember buying a new Marlin Glenfield semi auto for $22. With a scope.
Of course, .22lr was .50 a box at the time. And the rifle was half a week's take home pay. I was going to say the rifle outlasted anything else I could have bought for that kind of money back then, but I still have my Craftsman 1/2 ratchet set from the time. I gave the Marlin to a buddy, who fixed it, and still shoots it.

I bet you can still get one for $22 if you pay in 90% silver Morgan or Peace dollars.

LGS here always has a couple Henry 22's on the rack but hardly any of the larger caliber Henry rifles.

Same here, 22’s but very few center fires.
