Hi all.

I cycled some cartridges through my new BBS the other day, without firing, just to check everything was working OK. One of them would not enter the chamber. After a couple of tries I ejected it, and noticed a strange deformation. First I thought it had caught on the edge of the chamber, but examining it closely it seems to be a defect from factory.

It came from a sealed Magtech .357 box. Brand new cartridges, no reloads.

What do you think?

It looks like part of the lip has come into contact with something and been folded inside the case. I suppose out of 1000's of cases that are produced daily, there will always be one or two duds that evade detection.

Mgr, I had a slightly different issue with an ammo round a couple of years ago. I ordered a box of manufactured ammo via the web, and it arrived with one "missing" round. Although I didn't think it would go anywhere, I wrote to the manufacturer. With no questions asked, they said they would replace it, and asked for my address. It was a nice surprise when I got the package from them....they replaced the one missing round by sending me another full box of ammo!! Since then, I've bought their ammo fairly regularly.

Might be worth an email contact or phone call....one never knows.

Yea, looks like a slip through the insp. process, good thing you caught it before you "needed" it !

Good idea . I think Ill try that .

It looks like that round came that way from the manufacturer. I've never seen brass disfigured like that while cycling a rifle. A call to Magtech is definitely in order.

Interesting. I've seen damaged case rims but never that bad.

I've seen a few pictures of rounds that looked like that. Don't think it's common. I've folded a section of mouth or two on my reloading press. It happens.

I have a factory round like that on my reloading bench. Went to a range that would not allow reloads. I ended up buying two boxes of 38 Special 130gr for the event and this is what I found in one of the boxes. The round was made by Remington. I just wrote it off and placed it on my bench to show that factory ammo is no better than my reloads.

Looks almost exactly like mine . I sent my pics to Magtech, but got no reply from them.
