Muzzel Velocity of .44 mag

Hi Folks!

I recently got a Big Boy in .44 mag and love it. I'd like to sight in for 100 yard zero, but don't have that kind of distance where I live. Has anyone chrono'd a 240 gr JHP or similar round for MV? With this info, I can input into Nikon zeroing program and calculate aim point at shorter distances for longer distance zero. Alternatively, actual experience with this round in a Big Boy would suffice.

Thanks for the help! :)

I'm looking forward to hearing those numbers as well .... the numbers I've seen run in the 1745 fps

No numbers but I sight the 44mag two inches high at fifty yard and good to 150 yards. Done it that way about fifty years I guess. Dead on at 25yards shoud give you about two inches high at fifty.

This is my "go to" reloading site http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistol
W/10" barrel and Lil' Gun powder and 240g JHP max load shows 1582 fps. Obviously more w/rifle {I forget the formula] :D
H110 slightly lower ;)

Add ABOUT 50' per 1' barrel length for MV. That would give you near 2000 fps. [not carved in stone !]

a 240 gr JHP out of a 44 Mag with a 2000 fps muzzle velocity would be one heck of a round .... out to something over 100 yard, I'd think it would have a relatively flat trajectory and deliver outstanding impact and penetration .... I'm more excited than ever about developing such a round our of ours
