No shadow was in the scope. Checked and found that Scope is designed for
Parallax Setting 50 yards
It is Diamondback 2-7 X 35
Can that play a role??
It could, although with your scope it shouldn't be a big issue at 25 yds or 75yds. Beyond that range it will probably become a bigger issue - it's all about the angles, inside the scope as well as from your eye and the scope, to the target. Note that parallax is affected by magnification - the higher the magnification the worse it gets. I don't think you need to run out and buy a $400+ AO scope, unless you plan on long range shooting - 400 yds or more. Just being aware of the issue and what you can do to compensate with your scope might be enough. Zeroing at 50 in your case is the best course of action, imho. Here's a short piece with a video about it:

That luckygunner video ought to help the OP. Thanks for putting that up Gunny. A good watch for shooters having "issues" with sighting a scope.

You're welcome. It's one of the best explanations/tutorials on the subject that I've run across. :)

That said, the Vortex Diamondback the OP has is a rimfire scope, so it may be having a internal problem with the much heavier recoil on his .308, although judging from the initial zeroing it would appear to be holding up well so far.

Either

Or

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I'd really like to be able to answer that question .... I took our BLR to our local shop where I've bought firearms and related equipment since the late 70's .... recommended the Nikon 3X9 and the rings to mount it ... that was something over 40 years ago and I simply don't remember .... those rings and the scope have been on it every since

Definitely the 3x9.

Those old Nikons are some pretty scopes Jim, I think I have 5.
