Prices are nuts

Post by Centaur » Wed Mar 03, 2021 7:02 am

In my never ending search for a 45-70, I was browsing through Gunbroker, and saw that guns are going for well above retail. I’m all for capitalism and free trade, but this stuff has gotten out of hand. And don’t even get me going about ammo and reloading components.
I guess as long as someone will pay waaay too much for stuff, the prices will remain ridiculous. I just hope that at some point, things will get back to semi normal, but with the crew on the Potomac right now, it doesn’t look good.

One primary cause is covid. Shut down copper mines in Brazil, leadmines in Missouri and manufacturers were running at very reduced capacities. The "current crew on the Potomac" has done more to solve the covid issues in a month than the prior crew did in a year!

Based on the responses to this video many people are not buying it. My opinion is that excess profit taking without increased production along with hoarding and increased fear demand is behind shortage. Companies won't invest in new capital improvements if they are maximizing profits on their current level of investment.

I could comment more, but it would involve politics a little too much. That said, we've seen crazy prices before, like in the 2013 crisis for example, and here we are again. I don't know why people want to overpay on stuff. Probably mostly fear and panic. I guess I can say that there are a whole lot of new owners out there, adding to the crisis. Some of the background check numbers have gone through the roof.

Hopefully prices and availability will, maybe not come back to normal, but, ease up some in time.

I'm hoping on normal. Markets can fluctuate from one end to another. Unless inflation kicks in...
