I bet a Ruger Charger or Thompson Contender pistol would be a sweet mares leg.

Absolutely! You can shoot them that way and I have, basically using a silhouette style shooting stance with the pistol up close to the face, using a riflescope or red dot. The Charger, right out the box, is especially easy to rest against your face and use it that way. Just remember to bring LOTS of ammo. Fun, fun, fun.

I'd think a Creadmore stance would be the most accurat for a shooting a Mare's Leg .

I believe that our friend Sir Henry built his first "mare’s leg" using a Charger and a cut down 10/22 stock. I have seen it posted on a couple of other forums. He may still have a photo of it on file somewhere.
He also made a 22 magnum version of the mare’s leg before Henry made theirs. That project was what got me interested in the Henry mare’s leg.

Really, what caliber were you using? Do you have pics? The closest I've seen is the crusher loop on TC pistols which gives you two places to grip as pictured below.

Very nice. I like them a lot, I think they are too cool. I think they'd be fun to shoot and easy to haul around the farm...
But I went with the carbine instead.

In Washington State you can not have a loaded rifle in a vehicle but you can a pistol.

That's one lf the advantages of the mares leg, it can go where rifles can't and it's 50 state legal.

Was reading through this thread and figured I'd comment as it was a sore spot for me once. Mares Legs are not California legal! Unless you are LEO...

I'm hauling the carbine around the farm on the utv... a polaris ranger.
I don't leave the private property, so it's not an issue, or I take it to the cattle farm where we fish in case of coyotes. Still private property.

My .22WMR Mare's Leg is still the only octagon barrel one I've seen.
