Well missed the UPS guy on Friday. Got the notice of missed delivery.

Reset delicery to be picked up at the UPS hub instead of another delivery attempt at the house.

Rifle is now waiting for me at the UPS hub for me to go get on Monday. Not taking the chance of missing the knock at the door again.

I'll post again when I pickup and let you all know about unboxing of my new Small Game Rifle.

Lol. I used to have a client who was a Coca-Cola route driver. When he would come to see me, I'd always offer him a Pepsi (it was what I always had in the fridge in my office). He never did seem to see the humor in that.

Picked gun up yesterday and started the initial clean and look over this afternoon. Found a large (more like huge) metal burr on the barrel dovetail where the ammo tube mounts to the barrel. The burr is taller than the thickness of a dime and is sharp. It will cut someone if they rubbed their hand across it.

The ammo tube dovetail was not aligned with the barrel too. The dovetail was sticking out almost 1/4" from the barrel opposite the burr.

How can a rifle pass so may Q/C steps with a physical singoff and I get this kind of workmanship? I would post images but I'm not versed in doing so on the forum.

Called Henry CS and left a message and just e-mailed Anthony with pictures to ask for help.

Overall I'm speechless on how I feel about the replacement process now.

Got a call this morning from Customer Service. I explained the issues with the burr and alignment of the ammo tube respective to the barrel. Overnight UPS shipping label was emailed to me to send the rifle back.

Dropped the rifle off at UPS earlier today.

And now the saga continues.

Here is the latest update.

Rifle appeared with the UPS man yesterday.

I did not receive any e-mail or notification of shipment. I did ask for a shipment notification both verbally on the phone and in writing on the note that I sent in with the rifle. The e-mail that I sent into Mr Imperato with a cc to customer service went unanswered. I did find out that customer service e-mails do not go to the folks that answer the phone and field questions from owners.

Good news is. I recieved another new in box rifle, and this rifle shoots about 1" high at 25 yards. I only ran about 100 rounds through it today but I was consistently shooting high. Rear sight is bottomed out and there is no more elevation adjustment. Thinking about calling back in again and asking for a taller front sight to get more elevation adjustment.

Decisions... decisions...

Should I call Henry or just go get a new front globe sight..... ??????? I'm happy that I got resolution for the poor fit and finish of the last rifle but I need a bit more sight adjustment to get the rifle set to attempt to qualify in an Appleseed AQT.

Before you go changing your front sight, you need to try shooting at different distances and with different kinds of ammo. Even at 25 yards you may find that other loads shoot low instead of high.

Thanks for the input. I tried 25 rounds of each of the following - Mini Mag Solid, Mini Mag HP, Winchester HP (100 Round Red Box), Federal Blue (50 Round Box). I ran out of time to try Winchester White Box and Aguila. The local indoor range max distance is 25.5 yards, for other distances, I'll need to wait and get to a range with a 50 and 100 yard distances available.

Mini Mags (Solid and HP) and Federal Blue shot 1" high. Winchester shot about 2" high.

I will swab the bore and go back and try again at 25.5 yards before doing anything else with the front sight.

It's been a challenge for me to get any Small Game Rifle to run correctly for me. Between shooting high and fit / finish issues, I think I have dealt with multiple issues just to get the third rifle that is built correctly but still shoots high.

Well, if you do decide to change your sight, it's really easy to do.

My Small Game Carbine was shooting high too. I ended up going with a Lyman globe sight from Brownell's
and a taller rear stem from Skinner. Turned out great!

For what it's worth, I put a .494" (model AMI) 17A Lyman Globe on my Small Game Carbine. I was able to sight the rifle in at 25 yds with the stock Skinner rear sight using CCI mini-mags. This setup works well for me and my old eyes...

Thanks for your input. I was able to make it out to the range (25 yard indoor) again and the rifle does indeed shoot too high. One question to you guys, am I expecting too much out of the rifle? I want to be able to shoot POA = POI in the distance range of 25 -75 yards. I'm just surprised that there is this much variance in the factory sights from Henry. I would guess that they would have the front sight height totally dialed in before production.

At this point I'm between jobs and anything that requres $$ to fix is not out of the question. I'm challenged to even keeping my membership at the local range and now shooting anything that I have to purchase ammo for is out of the question. At least I have a healthy stock of 22LR.

OP, one other question comes to mind. Have you tried any standard velocity (1080 fps) .22 LR ammo? That, and taking a six o'clock hold when you shoot may get you where you need to be.
