I am glad the BB X comes with a side gate. The tube will not allow for loading rounds that are 1.65" even though the gun will cycle them. Load just fine through the gate.

So you're saying a 1.65 length cartridge won't drop through the loading slot in tube.
I find that Hard to believe, as I have both a 41 mag BBS & a 44 mag BBB and I have dropped longer cartridges through both.
My regular go to load in the 41 is a 270 grain cast that measures 1.675" and it drops like nobody's business and even cycles just fine.
Unless they have altered the slot, both of mine, I just drug them out and measured, are 1.685.
I have feed 320+gr rounds in the 44 that would go through the slot but were to long to cycle.
I literally had to pull lever & bolt to clear the round, yet it fell through the loading slot no problem.

IMO, the side gate is good for topping off the mag tube while out in the field. For range shooting a top loader is a lot easier to load and unload. The good thing about the Henry is that you have both.

I love having the option of using either, but I mostly use the tube feeder. The side loading gate on the new Henrys is not stiff at all unlike other manufacturers. Just oil it a bit before you take her out.
