Henry Addiction

Post by richg87 » Sat Jun 12, 2021 5:13 pm

Hi Everyone....I'm new to shooting. I've been shooting 22LRs and love plinking and target shooting. I have a Ruger American 10/22, an H001, and an H001TER (Evil Roy). I absolutely love the ER. I'm thinking of getting another ER in 22WMR. Something with a little more power. I know the 22WMR ammo is scarce and expensive but I would take out occasionally. I don't hunt so really do not need more than a 22. Those of you that have both 22LRs and 22WMR's is there any regret with having one of each? Is there a noticeable difference in power?
Thanks,
Rich

I have both and enjoy shooting each one. Don't regret owning either.

The basic 22lr is great...I own one, the SGC and love it. The WMR however IS a great round, and I aspire to add one to my collection. It is sometimes underated as a very potent round! I would be proud to own one.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The SGC is on my radar. I've read a lot of positive comments on the SGC. I need to hold one to get a feel for the balance. The ER balance is perfect and just feels right. If the SGC is similar I may need to consider it.

Not Henrys but I own a pair of identical Marlin bolt actions, one is a 22lr the other is a 22mag.
I like them equally, but if dispatching critters in the yard I reach for the 22mag.
I do own a H001 in 22lr, and wouldn't mind adding a 22 mag at some time.

I do a bit of ground squirrel shooting mostly using a Marlin 39-A lever action 22lr. Occasionally I would lose a hit squirrel down it’s hole but knew it was hit due to a blood trail. I bought a Ruger 22 wmr in the bolt action American series and the difference in the bullet impact (and drop) is amazing. Haven’t lost a hit squirrel since.

One day my wife and I were shooting 22’s at a steel spinning target and my son and DIL stopped by. I had my son try out the 22wmr on another target and didn’t warn him to not shoot the mild steel target. Next thing I heard a very loud sound of steel ringing and yep, he shot the steel target. That 22wmr put a very impressive dent in the steel that the 22lr would only show bullet splat.

Welcome to the forum. Don’t forget about the .17HMR.

The .17 HMR is a flat shooter and I really enjoy shooting 100 yard groups with that round. Good call Sir Henry.

All great feedback! Thanks for the heads-up on .17HMR. I haven't thought of this caliber.

Ive owned both and like the 22 mag better. Nothing wrong with the mag in the SGC I had one and sold it just because I have to much stuff. I think you will find that the SGC will handle just like the Evil Roy.

I have loved the .22Lr round for more than 50 years.
The .22WMR is a fantastic varmint round, for everything up to and including coyote.

Yes, the .17HMR is impressive for a .17 caliber, but I much prefer the .204 Ruger for a flat-shooting, hard hitting sub .22cal alternative.

Anyway you look at it, 4000fps is just flat movin'!

I ended up with a new Evil Roy 22 mag. Just picked it up on Tuesday. Can't wait to shoot it. Had to order some ammo as none of the local shops had any. I purchased directly from Evil Roy. Kudos to Henry Customer Service. I compared the 22 mag to my 22LR and noticed the silver receiver on the 22 mag was a little rough. I called Henry Customer support yesterday and today I received a new silver receiver. I did not expect it until next week. I love a company that stands behind their products.

Other than home defense weapon ( GP100,357 revolver) any weapon i have is a range toy. Would love to add a Golden Boy 22 mag, still waiting on a Big Boy steel sideload in 357magnum.

Go with the 357. Aside from a great home defense round....it's a great round for many things.
