Really liking my Henry Brass SS in 357 Magnum. I do need to make a change to it though. My eyes are old and tired. In bright light I can see the sights reasonably well. When I step into the woods or go to the indoor range where I am a member and shoot under fluorescent lights though, I just can not see the sights well enough.
Somehow a scope I think will be out of place on this rifle, but I would be open to a low powered, preferably fixed power scope, somewhere around 2 1/2 or 3 power. My eyes do enjoy a scope.
I am really thinking about a Skinner Sights Black Gold aperture sight. I think it would match up to the rifle well. It will need a taller front sight as well I am sure. They come in brass or blued. Would the brass front sight be overboard? Too much bling? Or do I need to stay with blue? Does anyone know how high the front sight needs to be?
Scope or aperture sight? Opinions and suggestions please!
As to shooting impressions? They are good. First trip to the indoor range I shot 158 grain 38 specials. It shot high. I did not mess with the sights because I guessed it might be dwell time. This morning I went for the second trip. This time I had cast 158 grain swc loaded up in 357 magnum cases pushed my IMR 4227. It seems that my hunch was right because these shot point of aim. Groups hovered right around 1 inch. BTW the indoor range I belong to is marked out to 20 yards. I do run the targets right up to the backstop which gives me right at 25 yards. I am not dissatisfied with the groups at all, taking in consideration my issue with seeing the sights. Looking forward to seeing what it will do with sights that fit my eyes better, and stretching out the range a bit.
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Re: .357 Brass
Have you thought about a red dot. You might also take a look at ranger point sights. They have fiber optic in with there peep sights. Guys here have bought them and like them alot.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: .357 Brass
Looked at the Leupold. It’s a LER scope, I would like to mount it in front of the hammer, but not too far in front. I know it has 5" of eye relief. How far forward is yours mounted?

Re: .357 Brass
Here’s a picture, this isn’t the rifle with the 2.5. This rifle has that model in 1.5 - 4 variable but is the same size.
