Just bought a new .357 ss and was wondering if anyone else has one. model H015- B. I was going to scope it but the mount I bought for it won't work. My new rifle has 3 top screws and the mount has 4. They will not align no matter how I try and the screws appear to be larger. I know a gunsmith would be able to drill and tap it but I can't go that expense. also it appears that to scope it I would have to remove the rear sight, not something I am willing to do. The only reason I wanted to scope it is because I can't see as well as I used to, it's an age thing.

According to the spec for the .357ss you need a "Weaver 82" compatible mount.
The rear sight should fold forward, so unless you have a really big objective lens there should be clearance.

Do you have a scope in hand or in mind?

yes I already have the scope. just a cheep one until I find one I really like. 3 to 9 with a thick to thin crosshair. came with the mounts, see through. should be more than high enough to clear the sight. receiver mount is what I was worried about.

I have a scope on mine and had to remove the rear sight. Im betting you will be doing the same. The only way around it would be to modify the base itself which I am considering doing.

These guys have a lot of good info for you...if you're gonna shoot from that horse though..I'd suggest you scope it too.

I used the Warne base and I had to remove the rear sight. It was easy to drift out with a brass punch. I wanted my scope as low as I could get it. I’m using a 3-9 but might go to a 1-5 to get it even lower.

Leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4X24 can get really low. Put that on my BBS and it's worked out well. These are the Talley Rail/Ring set-up, so not as low as it CAN be, but not bad...

right now I'm just waiting for the scope base to arrive. then I can get started with putting on the scope and figure out what I want to do with it. as for my horse, he's doing what I do every day. going around in circles.

Just for an update, I decided not to scope my Henry. Once I got it on I hated it. Too far forward to really see through it, a taller person may have been ok with it. finally put a Skinner peep, lowpro2, on her. love it. minor filing to start the sight on and a little taping to get it to seat where I needed it to go. really nice rifle to shoot, hammer is a little hard to pull back, found raising the mussel to about a 45 degree works to ease the pull. trigger is just about right from stock.

Matt if you get a hammer extender it will help on the cocking of the hammer. You could also change the spring.

I have a hammer extension but took it off along with the scope. the only modifications to the rifle now are the sights. just changed the front to a hi-viz as the eyes aren't even close to what they once were. for me, it is now a fun rifle to shoot.

I had a scope on mine also but took it off. I now have a red dot on it. I like using the red dots. I agree on the fun rifle to shoot I enjoy shooting mine.
