Another visit to the LGS, another Henry Single

Well, it happened again - went to our favorite gun shop to pick up a bottle of 2400 powder and saw a 357Mag Henry Single on the rack. Made the mistake of handling it. Was able to walk out the door without buying it this time, but kept thinking about it and talking about it to the wife over the next couple of hours as we did some errands around town. She finally told me to go back and buy it, so another Henry came home with us. I just can't seem to resist these Henry Singles - they are just so nice for the price. The guy at the counter was saying that if the wood on some of these Henrys was on a Browning, it would probably be a grade 5. I know he was just angling for a sale, but he may be right...
Here's a pic - fresh out of the box, unfired, cleaned up, with a Grainger spring installed:

Nice add to your collection!
My Henry purchase experience was similar. Resisted the initial impulse, but I was back the next day.

Had a feeling that was coming! Congrats and please let us know how it shoots, what you do for sights, etc.
I keep flip-flopping between the SS 20 ga. and maybe a SS 44 Mag. Who knows?

Henry sure has been showing off some fine-looking
wood stocks lately. And again, your .357 SS has a really purty one!
Since you said you "made the mistake of handling it," Tractortad, maybe you should have that
nice wife help you next time you're out together. Simply ask her to
not say "go back and buy it!"
And wow! If your signature line is up-to-date, I count 13 Henrys listed.....some kind of collection.

I hear ya man... haven't had the .357 a week yet, already thinking that a 20 gauge would look real nice next to it. And maybe a 45/70. And a .223, because, why not?

Already tried it - all three Singles in 357M, 44M, and 45-70 are completely interchangeable with each other. I took NCG's advice and sent Henry Tech Dept an e-mail about this and asked if it's possible to buy a lone single barrel - we'll see what they say - hopefully in the next couple of days...

yea - I know what you mean - there was a 12ga single on the rack with some unbelievable wood on the stock - I better not go back there for a couple of months...

figured you'd of already checked and can't say I'm surprised .... it will be interesting to hear what Henry has to say but my hunch is their lawyers will control their answer

To be honest, since you like the new Henry shotguns, I think you "flopped" on not getting that Henry 20-ga SS we handled at the KCKS Cabelas. It had the most unbelievably
beautiful wood stock, and the fit and finish were superb.
That shotgun was ready for both the range, and to hang on the wall when at home!

Don't think that I haven't checked to see if it's still there, PT. It's long gone, however, hanging on someone else's wall somewhere in KC (+/-). Still scouting...

The SS in .308 is still at my LGS.
Fear of the recoil as much as another cartridge to reload keep fro buying it.
$425 is a very appealing price.
If I come across a .243 or .223 caliber SS I doubt I'll hesitate.

Way to go, tad! That's a really nice looking rifle. I'm late to the party here, first day home with the new knee was Friday, March 1. It's going great, but I hadn't been back on my lap top 'till today. The interchangeability of barrels sure should be possible among barrel blanks of a like size; it'll be interesting what Henry says about it.

Hope your new knee deal works out and you can get back to playing with your 30-30 Henry single. Henry Tech wrote back "Thank you for your interest. I'm sorry, the platform was not designed for bbl interchange and spare bbls are not being offered as separate accessories" - which was what everybody kind of thought they would say. It wouldn't surprise me though if they were to offer single barrels for sale in the future, because whether they knew or it or not, the single platform is already designed to swap different caliber barrels on the same receiver. I think they would sell a lot more singles if people new they could add a different caliber just by buying a barrel which would probably be less than half the price of a new gun...
