When I clean a firearm I like to take it apart as far as possible and still be able to put it back together but for the life of me I can't take the forearm off this rifle. Can anyone help me with this?

I've not seen or handled a Henry single-shot rifle yet. What model do you have?

Looking at the Henry web site, this rifle has the break-down action, correct? The forearm doesn't look likes it is designed to come off the rifle for cleaning. Primary cleaning method would be to break the barrel open and clean the bore from the hammer end. A definite plus over a lever-action design for cleaning. Sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe someone who owns a single-shot can chime in for you on your question?

The manual shows field stripping, but as PT7 said, the forearm appears to remain on the barrel. I haven't done that to mine, yet, haven't needed to. I think a call or E-mail to customer service could shed some light on it. I'd try the Rice Lake plant, where they make 'em. Someone there should be able to answer your question.

Thanks guys I can take most any firearm completely apart. I had a gun smithing business back in the 90's but I had a lot of exploded view diagrams and with this it is new and this is my first Henry I don't want to break something so I did put a e mail into Henry.

OK I took the forearm off and it was not that big of a deal BUT they did not mention that there is a spring and detent ball in there. still not difficult as long as you have the right size punches and a regular gun Philips screw driver and a small gun smith hammer. I would not do this on a regular basis only when you've been in the rain and want to oil it under there or every five or ten yrs. to clean out dirt or what ever.
The pin is the one between the pivot pin and the forearm not the one closes to the chamber.
Down the road I will tear this weapon down and polish some stuff up but for now I just want to get some dry weather so I can shoot it.

Thanks for getting that cleared up. I, too, wondered about removing the forearm when I take the rifle down, but hadn't tried it yet. Henry should add that line to the field stripping section, just to make it perfectly clear.
