Single Shot Rifle Order

Post by HenryFan » Fri Nov 24, 2023 9:25 am

I decided to act on my desire to purchase a second Henry single shot rifle and placed an order yesterday evening with one of the large, national on-line firearms vendors.

I prefer to put an eye on a firearms purchase before closing the deal but I doubt I will stumble across one at a shop or a gun show so when I found a single shot in .223 Rem., I placed the order. Even the big vendors have a limited selection of Henry single shot rifles, specifically those I checked all had a limited selection of caliber choices. And I checked a good many vendors.

I ordered the rifle I wanted at the most competitive price I could find.

In any event, I hope that upon arrival, it has good wood. Maybe even lottery wood but I don't think that is realistic.

Congratulations. I checked out the Henry web site for prices and decided to stop by my LGS to see what they would quote to order. BUT they were closed today due I guess to the Holiday yesterday. I am interested in that gun too so I am waiting to find out what you think of it.

Ernie -

I already own one Henry single shot rifle, that one is chambered in .30-30 Win. I ordered the second single shot because I like the .30-30 so well.

If it is like the .30-30 rifle, it will be well made with steel and walnut.

I'll post more when I open the box.

I sure wish they had an octagon barrel version of these.

I'm an old fan of the 30-30, too. Good choice.

My new Henry single shot rifle in .223/5.56 arrived at my local FFL holder yesterday and he delivered it to me today.

When I unboxed the rifle, I was quite pleased with the walnut stock. Not lottery wood but certainly nice walnut, maybe very nice.

I did notice that both the receiver and the barrel on the new Henry single shot were both matte finished whereas my older Henry single shot in .30-30 Winchester has a matte receiver and a blue steel barrel. This does not bother me to any great degree but I still prefer blue steel over matte.

While giving it an initial cleaning, I could not find any dents, dings, scratches, blemishes, crud, corrosion or problems.

I am still waiting on a hammer spur and a scope mount from Henry Pride so I won't shoot it until these arrive.

In summary, I am pleased.
