Can’t afford a Sharps, so…

Post by Centaur » Sun Aug 29, 2021 7:50 am

I will be picking up a 45-70 Single Shot next week. After getting a 30-30 single shot, I really like the Henry, and the high dollar reproductions are above my pay grade. I will have to decide whether or not to scope the new one or get another Skinner sight for it down the road.

congrats on your coming addition .... will you be loading your own 45-70 ammo or will you be using factor rounds .... as your collection grows, be sure to add them to our How Many ? thread ===> http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.p ... 63#p179763

I load for 45-70 (when I can get components), and I expect that the H0015 can handle fairly stout loads. But I will also shoot Pyrodex out of it since cleanup should be easier with the single shot.

I have never used any form of black powder in any of our Henry rifles .... looking forward to following your load development and use reports

Picked it up today. Typical Henry nice stock, now I need to make some noise with it. Hopefully tomorrow. I am amazed at the quality that Henry provides at this price point.

Got to put some rounds down range in this rifle. 350 grain bullets in front of 51 grains of 3031 made an accurate and plenty powerful load without undue recoil. Shot some more 350s with 70 grains of Pyrodex; very pleasant load, but takes a lot of cleaning. Love the smoke, but probably won’t shoot a lot of these because of the cleanup; sure don’t want to corrode the barrel.
All in all, this rifle is everything I hoped it would be.
