Got me a really good deal!!!
How many times do you stumble into a gun store just to see what they have and find the exact gun you’ve been hankering for? This one was previously purchased but unfired and priced at just more than half of MSRP. What a bonus!
Most will recognize it as the Henry lever-action .410 with a 24-inch barrel. It was the last gun on the last rack I viewed and I just couldn't buy it fast enough. I literally almost wet my pants while filling out the form. Fortunately the whole process is real quick and easy here in Arizona for a CCW holder and I was out the door with it (and then into the restroom at the Mexican restaurant next door) after just a few minutes.
That store had only two boxes of self-defense ammo priced at $32 each, so I passed on them. When I got back to the truck, I called around to every shop within 20 miles (there are quite a few of them) to see what they had. I was able to come up with six boxes to get started with. The guy who sold me the Fiocchis -- a "black gun" dealer who operates out of his garage and who I know pretty well from local bowling leagues -- said he should be able to get me a steady supply. He gave me those for $17 each out the door.
I'll put a few rounds through it on hand-thrown clays as soon as this storm passes and do a little work on the patterning board. Can't wait to bag my first game bird/animal with it -- don't know if it'll be a cottontail, a squirrel or a dove.
I'll turn 60 a week from Monday, so this has been a great early birthday present!

Congratulations on a great gun. I'm glad you were able to find ammunition easily as well.

I heard that, it's been pretty much non-existent around here for a good while now.daytime dave wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 2:07 pmCongratulations on a great gun. I'm glad you were able to find ammunition easily as well.
A buddy down in Texas found some week before last for $14 a box.

Great score on that 410 and especially the ammo.
I understand completely about wandering into a shop and seeing something you won’t leave without. In fact that’s what got me started here on this site. Went into the LGS looking for a Henry 30-30 and there in the rack was a used but totally unmarked Big Boy Steel in 327 Fed Mag. I have always had a thing for that caliber so I left the 30-30 in the rack and brought the 327 home.
Looking forward to your hunting report when that beauty is bloodied.

I've never been a 410 shooter, but that looks like a smooth one. Have a good time with it, and let us know.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

You did very well on that one! Is it because of hunting with it Henry did not extend the mag tube to end of barrel? Yep I had the same luck when I found my first lever rifle which was a lightly used Uberti 1873 with 24 inch barrel in 45 Colt. Saw it hanging on the wall in a "black" gun shop and it had recently been sold to the shop by owner needing cash. Got a good deal on it from the AR type folks!

Here we have a shotgun capacity for hunting of three shells. When I got mine I checked with Henry and found they have a mag tube that does just that. Ordered one and I’m legal. I was impressed that they had that available.

Have a similar law here in Tenn., but it only pertains to migratory birds such as dove and waterfowl.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 10:28 amHere we have a shotgun capacity for hunting of three shells. Not when hunting rabbits or tree rats.

I’ll have to look at the regs but I bet we are the same as you. Bird hunting for sure but I bet rabbits wouldn’t have a mag limit.
