Large loop v. Standard lever
Large loop v. Standard lever
I recently purchased the Henry Silver Eagle with a standard lever. I'd like to change to a large lever. Is it hard to change? Can I do it myself?
What are the pros and cons of standard v. large lever?

Re: Large loop v. Standard lever
First off...congrats on a beautiful rifle!
I personally like the large loop. More versatility as far as I'm concerned.
More room if wearing gloves and plenty of room if you decide to wrap it.
My SGC came with the large loop, so I've not had to do the swap on a rimfire. On the other hand, my 20" BBS 357 came with the small loop. I Immediately ordered the large loop for it. Very easy to swap it out! Yes, you can do it.
If you decide to go that route, I'm sure someone will chime in to help. Just don't know if procedure is the same on the rimfire.

I might add that you WILL get a mix of opinions on large vs small.

Re: Large loop v. Standard lever
Mark is exactly right, the "Standard vs. Large Loop" conversation comes up a lot and while there are some who prefer one of the other for completely personal reasons, there are also some who don't seem to care and use whatever Henry decides to put on the rifle as standard equipment. So far, I'm in the latter category, but that could change tomorrow, who knows?
Anyway, it's a VERY easy DIY, just make sure you order the right one from the HenryPride website (yours is a model 004, I believe):

Re: Large loop v. Standard lever
I'm sorry ESquared got ya on the right track there.
It's really a pretty simple task.
I like the large loops and like Mark, as soon as I got my 41 BBS I changed it out.
But, with that being said, my H001, and 44 BBB still have the factory small loops.
I don't know I just think the steel version looks better with the large one.
And Hey, most of of know what they say about those opinions.

Re: Large loop v. Standard lever
I can see how the large loop has advantages in handling, but I prefer the more traditional one myself. Try one out if you can.
