Anyone use the onx mapping app. What do you think of it? Is it worth the cost. My main interest is something to use that will get me back to my truck after dark. Now that I'm getting older with a bad leg,etc I ain't gonna spend the night with lions,tigers,and bears,oh my..lol

Cheaper than buying a GPS. Looks promising to me.

I use it. Well worth the price in my opinion.

You might wanna give Gaia GPS for smartphones. It works great in Android phones, but it seems to be a tiny bit nicer in Apple phones. A subscription is currently $39.99. They do have free trials available that one young guy in our hunting party used this deer season.

Gaia seems to have more maps and map layers available than OnX, like Private Land maps, Public Land layer/maps, & pretty much every Natl. Forest or BLM map ever made, some in multiple versions. Those particular map layers I just mentioned are used a lot to be sure that I don't tread onto land where I'm not supposed to be. I realize OnX has a similar map, but from what I've seen, Gaia's are easier to read, for me and my hunting buddies. My hunting partner is a really, REALLY tech savvy guy that tries most everything that comes along. He's dropped the OnX in favor of Gaia on his Iphone, if that means anything.

Now for the disclaimer about Gaia: They have pretty good video tutorials about downloading maps, marking waypoints, tracking yourself, and a bunch of other features. Even so, it has taken me, a "not-so-tech-savvy" type of individual, a bit of time to learn all the features I use most for hunting. Most of it I've learned by messing around on it while on my exercise walks. If you've used OnX, it's similar but different. I think, being a map and compass guy for so many years, it makes me not so eager to embrace technology, and therefore a not so eager to learn how to use it as I should be. Having said that, my past compass/paper map exerience does seem to help understand Gaia at times.
