If I remember correctly, they are called Molle (Molly) straps.

I would have loved to have had Molly gear. When I was in, WE had 782 Gear, way heavier. The 782 was the old form we signed when we were issued our gear. There was a list of Combat turnout gear for each designated unit or assignment. As a door gunner, MY List would be drastically different than a standard ground pounder, who would get gear I wouldn't need, just as a Tanker would get gear the Ground Marine wouldn't need.
Funny thing is, WE signed for BASIC combat gear, then a LOAD of extra Flight related gear.
All Marines signed for BASIC combat gear. Then the gear for your MOS. We signed LOTS of forms...
