Birchwood Target Stand, Adjustable 13” to 25”

Post by Sir Henry » Tue Dec 22, 2020 4:38 pm

I almost forgot about the target stands I ordered. They came today in a separate shipment.

I wasn’t looking for an adjustable stand and was thinking that is going to be the weak spot. It might well be the weak spot but it’s weakest spot is stronger that older light weight one. The old one weighs in at 3 lbs 10.5 oz while the adjustable one tops the scales at 8 lbs 9.0 oz.

I’ve adjusted the width so they can both take the same cardboard/1x2 upper. The adjustable one has a longer base and will be far better in wind. I might be carrying an additional 5 lbs of stand but I’m not also carrying another 10 lb weight.

The way the 1x2 fits is also different. A wing nut kept the wood to the metal and this one uses a spring tension. The jury is still out on that.

Looks like a nice stand Gene. Think I like it better than the one I have

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

That looks like just the ticket for me. My last stand gave up the ghost and for that I’m happy. Homemade out of 2x6”s and heavy as all get out. I’m going to check those out for the times I shoot on DNR land instead of the rifle club.

Even though I haven’t used them I would recommend them. I liked the older smaller one til I saw this one.

I have that stand. Had it for a few years. Works great. That is until I took my daughter in law to the range(new shooter) made the mistake of not putting the stand part(bottom)behind a barrier. They have railroad ties at the zero line. She hit it right in the middle with a fmj .380. The round put a small mark on the metal. BUT now I cannot tighten the set screw down enough to keep the stand from changing width.
I was able to correct it by putting a thick piece of plastic under the set screw and then tighten it.

Interesting lamp. I thought it was only a TV thing: Christmas Story. It's one of my wife's favorite shows. It seems that she watches it e every year.

It’s on my TV. Does that count? I put it out the day after thanksgiving and take it down after Christmas.
