Cartridge Carrier
when we go to the range we carry our ammo in boxes in our range bag .... when we go hunting we often carry spare ammo in a cartridge carrier worn on our belts .... following the recent purchase of a Henry 44 MAG and a 45-70 I found I didn't have cartridge carriers to use with them .... so, earlier today, I purchased two Uncle Mike's Kodra Nylon Folding Rifle 10-Cartridge Carriers ===> https://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Mikes-Fold ... r%2C+Black <=== below are pictures of the carriers filled with 44's, 45-70's, and a mix of both .... early on we went with leather (cartridge and/or clip) carriers which have done OK but we have found that synthetic ones seem to hold up better .... after getting home and loading the carriers, I realized we could have gotten by with just one but having a couple can't hurt ..

Re: Cartridge Carrier
just curious, have you ever left shells in a leather carrier and found something reacted and turned the brass shell walls greenDeadwood Dutch wrote:I don't know who makes the leather one.

Yes, I don't do that anymore. Even the knives with the brass ends left in the leather sheath turn green after a while. I just use some brass polish.

Re: Cartridge Carrier
glad to know I'm not the only one .... that's the reason I long ago decided to go with synthetic ones
Re: Cartridge Carrier
Looks like a good solution. As someone that doesn't reload I typically have my factory cartridges in the boxes they came in!

Re: Cartridge Carrier
understood .... when we are shooting at a range, that works well .... when we go into the woods hunting we have tried carriers that fit on our rifle stocks and that does work .... however, carrying spare ammo in a carrier on a belt seems to work best for us ....JCN wrote:Looks like a good solution. Re: Cartridge Carrier
That makes sense. I've never hunted, but I'm not opposed to reducing the coyote population here.

Re: Cartridge Carrier
The nylon slip on type just don't seam to last much more than a yr or two for me and I have lost more rounds out of the loops.
Thats mostly why I have gone to the leather

Re: Cartridge Carrier
now that you mention it, I do recall many years ago having a nylon (?) one on a rifle stock that aged to where I had to throw it away for the same reason .... so far, I haven't had that problem with the belt type

Re: Cartridge Carrier
I like the leather, I only put the rounds in for hunting,
Then remove them ,back into a box.

Re: Cartridge Carrier
very, very nice .... leather takes cartridge carriers to a much higher level .... agree on only inserting shell when needed .... way back in my cowboy days I learned the lesson of green casings

Re: Cartridge Carrier
I use to buy a new nylon cartridge holder almost every yr.
They seem to stretch out. Lost a lot of ammo.
I do have a new one , but it has a flap over the top that holds them in, plus it has a zipper type pocket,
I have it on my Parker hale 303.
P.s.. I have to correct this , this one doesn't have a flap.

That's why I keep the nickel plated Hornady Critical Defense .22wmr in my Heritage RR holster.

Re: Cartridge Carrier
A couple different guys
One is a guy in Texas, Terry cannon., Terry doesn't have a web site. He has items for auction at times on another site.
The other is levergunleather.com
He made me a matching set the black bear cartridge holder and a butt cuff on my 35 Remington

Re: Cartridge Carrier
Have to correct this , on the rifle is a cuff.,
Not a butt cuff, A butt cuff covers the butt of the stock.
This Henry one is a butt cuff, goes over the butt plate.
