If I remember correctly, they are called Molle (Molly) straps.
MOLLE is an acronym for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. It is used to define the current generation of load-bearing equipment and backpacks ... (per Wiki)
I would have loved to have had Molly gear. When I was in, WE had 782 Gear, way heavier. The 782 was the old form we signed when we were issued our gear. There was a list of Combat turnout gear for each designated unit or assignment. As a door gunner, MY List would be drastically different than a standard ground pounder, who would get gear I wouldn't need, just as a Tanker would get gear the Ground Marine wouldn't need.
Funny thing is, WE signed for BASIC combat gear, then a LOAD of extra Flight related gear.
All Marines signed for BASIC combat gear. Then the gear for your MOS. We signed LOTS of forms...
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
