Anyone catching them through the ice?

Anyone catching them through the ice?

Post by JayZuv » Sun Mar 01, 2020 12:10 am

Anybody else here been fishing on hard water? Here in NY the winter has been pretty warm so the season started later than usual, have had to work pretty hard but have found some fish here and there.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I admire your ability and drive to get out there on the ice JZ. Can't take the cold anymore. I think some of us old guys feel the same. Used to go Steelhead fishing, mid-winter on the river in Berien Springs Michigan, but, that was over 30 years ago.
Unless I'm wrong on my ID, that's a decent Small mouth Ya got there! Good luck!; may you catch many more! ☺

The photo is a Crappie, abundant in these parts but finnicky under the ice. The perch come in larger numbers and they sure fill the freezer, but I like the challenge of getting the Crappies to bite. When all else fails, Tip ups for Pike always makes it a fun day!

My first thought was Crappie, but thought the mouth looked a little large. Tells Ya how much of an angler I am. 😁

We had good early season walleye fishing on Lake of the Woods and a few lakes nearer to home earlier in the season. (I'm a hour and a half from Lake of the Woods). But the ice ended up not being very good this year. We had good starting ice but then a ton of snow. I was hoping to put my spear house out this year but it didn't happen... Hopefully next year!
The odd looking fish is an eel pout, the rest are walleye and saugers.
