No Jolly Roger but I’m old enough to remember them and drooling over them as a youngster.

Went out yesterday for our maiden voyage. Mostly to put some hours on the motor and to introduce the dog to the boat. As you can see the water is very low which I understand is typical for this tine of the year. Normal full pool of the reservoir is where you can see the green grass on each side of the ramp. The water is supposed to be full pool in June which gives us many more launches to use.

Cruise went well other than the 2’ chop. Boat handled it well but we were expecting no to little wind so was surprised to find choppy. Went downriver first which was into the wind and chop running for an hour or so with varying rpm’s. I saved my high rpm runs for the way back when we would be running with the wind.

As seen in the pic our dog handled the boat trip just fine. He stepped from the dock onto the elevated rear casting platform without hesitation which I didn’t expect. Lately he has become shy about getting in and out of the car. A little more difficulty getting him out but he complied with some firm pressure on his leash. We put the rear jump seats and the cover to the live well up to keep the dog from getting interested in the wake. Seemed to work.

Made the run back to the launch putting the boat on plane several times. Rode nice and is real peppy. Shouldn’t be a problem giving the grandkids a thrilling ride in a tube.

A few more break-in cruises and then we’ll focus on learning the fish finder and giving fishing a shot. We have some week long trips already scheduled around the area where we can camp and fish/boat. Plus the launch in the picture is only about 20 miles from our place near the Canadian Border where we can camp for free. When the water is at full pool it’s only about 5-6 miles to the closest launch.

Meant to take more pictures but I got busy and forgot.

Indeed, just as soon as I get 10 hours on the motor it’s going to be fun to firewall the throttle. It’s a lightweight boat and with the three of us aboard it should hit around 40 mph and get there quickly. Put the family in and we’ll see…

When we bought the boat we special ordered bucket seats for the driver and passenger seats. The boat came with three seats so this gives us five which is one too many. So we only ordered one additional pedestal and planned to sell the extra seat when they came in. We were told to expect a 30 - 90 day wait but the seats arrived in two weeks. The dealer called me the other day saying he had a customer looking for a seat just like our extra one. So the dealer kept the seat for the customer and put a credit on account for us that we will use when the 20 hour service is due. Sure nice to not have to try to sell in on Craigslist.

Here’s the new bucket seats in comparison to the stock seats. The dealer did all the swapping of seat and pedestal at no charge. The two bucket seats are on air-ride pedestals and are not designed to be moved around the boat. So now we have two comfortable seats for cruising and trolling and two fishing seats for when we are casting. The fishing seats will stay home when not needed as the boat gets too crowded with all four in there. Gotta leave room for the dog, right”

After a mildly frustrating week long fishing trip and struggling to keep a charge in the trolling motor batteries we decided to add a gas kicker. This will be used for propulsion while the electric motor will be used for steering and fine tuning the trolling speed (in .10 mph, stupid fish  ). So this week we got this Mercury Pro Kicker installed. It has electric start, an alternator to charge the starting battery and power tilt. Could have gone with a less expensive less features motor but this one matched the primary motor nicely. You know, gotta look good out there. Anyway, I believe it matches up nicely and I can hardly wait to give it a try. Leaving a week from tomorrow for another week trip to the Upper Columbia.

The new boat looks fantastic!

Kettle Falls is just down the road from me. Maybe we will meet up for a fish one day? I put a 50 hp Merc tiller on my new boat. It’s sure different when looking at a fully equipped boat like yours vs the stripped down “freighter” I have in my 17’ mod vee. I’ve got ridiculous amounts of room to fish, but not top or windscreen. I think a bimini is in my future as it’s too hot for the dogs most days. If I had a jet drive on my outboard I could almost put in at the launch across the street from my house and run straight down to Lake Roosevelt. Looks like one small section south of Orient that would be a no-go…
