Bought a fishing boat

Thanks, we’re enjoying it a bunch. Didn’t realize you were so close, Kettle Falls is only about an hour north of my home. I haven’t been on the water much north of the Evans area but I understand it gets pretty rough beyond Northport. Lots of fly fishing guides run that area from float tubes. That would be interesting to boat down across the border, wonder how that would work.

A Bimini top sure helps and I like the sport top this boat has. Nice to be able to snap it to the windshield in crappy weather. We just spent nearly a week in the Fort Spokane area where the Spokane river enters the Columbia. Caught several fish including a 19” beauty my wife landed. We’re pretty new at this type of fishing with all the “stuff” on the boat. In a couple of weeks we’re heading up to Sullivan Lake and plan to fish for the Kokanee in there. Small fish at 8-9” and this time of the year they will be deep. Probably going to be more of a downrigger learning trip than landing fish but we’ll see. So far the two times I have attempted to use the downriggers I haven’t had much success. Last week I set the release too light and had a release with no fish so set it heavier. Which was too heavy as I hooked a fish and it didn’t release. Didn’t know until I brought it up. Fortunately it was a keeper as I doubt it would have survived being drug around the lake for a bit.

Here’s some pics from our Fort Spokane trip. We’re having a blast figuring all this stuff out.

I just took a look at google maps and I see you would be on the Kettle River. Never been on it but I have fished the mouth. I need to make an exploratory trip up it one of these days. Welcome to the dry side of the Cascades and good luck fishing.

Just returned from a lake up near the Canadian border. We fished for Kokanee and caught a bunch. They are very small with the big ones going only about 9”. But they are great smoked or on the bbq. I didn’t take any pictures of the fish but here’s some pics of the lake. There is a fire burning abut five miles away and we could see the smoke. The first day is was burning but not horrible. The second day it seemed to lay down nicely but then the wind got nasty and the fire blew up. Note the vertical column of smoke vs the horizontal column. The horizontal smoke is when it was not burning too fiercely and the vertical is when the wind picked up. When it blew up a helicopter showed up with a snorkel and pulled water from the lake to suppress it. It’s burning exactly in the drainage I used to hunt Elk back when I was young enough to take on the steep big country up there. This is national forest and there is no private ownership of land anywhere close to the fire. In the picture with the trees there is a bald eagle sitting in a tree waiting for dinner. Might be hard to see unless you’re looking on a larger screen. Best I could do with me 5X phone camera.
