Henry Single Shot .243. And a bit of background...

Based on some help on this site, a free spring from someone on this site, and some good instructions on this site I went to work on the trigger. First, change the 50# spring to a 38# spring. Took the rifle apart and got a super smooth piece of ceramic. Rubbed a bit on the hammer and trigger surfaces. Didn’t really cut any material, just shined it up a bit. Then a Q-Tip and Brasso. Still no material cut, but a wee bit smoother and slicker. Then on the spring housing tube on the end that screws into the receiver I put a very small rubber O-ring. Then at the head of the bolt that screws the stock on 4 very thin nylon washers - maybe a touch over 1/32”. Now I can snug the stock down good and not engage the springs too much. Trigger is much, much better. No pre-travel at all and a nice crisp break. 20 rounds - zero light strikes.

Wanted to check point of impact at various magnifications @100 yards. Brought a youngster I was sponsoring into the conservation club and while we waited for the board members to arrive we hit the range.

Two shooters, four different magnifications, two shots per person - four shots total. Sand bag and rolled up carharts for a rest. Federal Berger Hybrids - 95 grains.

Think I’ll be hanging on to this rifle for a while. And I think the youngster is going to be shopping for a new Henry.

After hunting season. I’d not get it back in time if I sent it when I finally got my RMA. Take it apart put the original spring back in, take off the o-ring and nylon washers, send it in.

Nice work on the trigger. I almost bought a single shot but the trigger was so hard I just didn't need another project at that time. You did good job of taking an intrinsic accurate rifle and turning it into a rifle takes the shooter into the equation then makes it a practical accurate rifle.

All that I did was read from this site. Including thoughts on backing the spring tube and the stock bolt off just a bit to keep the bolt from engaging the spring too much. I'd noticed when I put the lighter spring in and tightened down the stock bolt it didn't really help the trigger. Having read the above concerning the bolt engaging the spring, I backed the bolt out a quarter turn and it got just a wee bit better, another quarter turn, etc. So I figured the folks that talked about keeping the bolt back from the springs just a bit knew what they were talking about. Not many of us here has come up with anything new and merely have done what others have done also.
