Pugnose VS Striker.

Ok Boys and girls here it is. The contest of the MCB Striker VS Pugnose. All loads were loaded on my Dillon Square Deal Press. Loads were both the same. 11.5 grains of 2400 with a standard small pistola primer. I used 2 guns here. I have a Remlin stainless 1894 357 and my Henry CCH Carbine. Both loads were shot from these guns. I love the Henry. It shoots great and it cycles like a dream now. The Marlin is a long story. But it does now shoot pretty good though not as good as the Henry. Its also shooting low with these bullets and the rear elevator is all the way up. If I was going to shoot the Marlin on a regular basis I would get a red dot for it. I shot all loads of the bench at 50 yards. Nothin but the iron sights the guns came with.

I did 2 rounds of 5 with each bullet. Its been a while since I have been out so the first round of the Pugnose was not as good as I felt it could be. As you can see target 2 with round 2 was much better.

The striker didnt do well in my Henry. That being said I did shoot some off hand at the steel and was able to make it ring. Next up is the Marlin

I only posted the Marlin with the striker load. The Pugnose in the Marlin was not good at all and shot way low

This picture is the Marlin with a 158grhp Rose Dist jacketed bullet. The Marlin likes this load and so does the Henry. The load is 9.2 grs of HS-6 and a standard small pistol primer. I had some of these loads along and thought I would check them out.

Here is the Henry with the Rose Bullet. Last picture is my target stand. There is a 6 inch plate hanging on it with 2 tennis balls. Those Tennis balls are a challenge off hand at 50 yards. I moved them up to 35 and was able to increase the hits but its still a small target. Even hit one with the 357 and that really sends them spinning.

Hope you enjoy this report. Your findings might be different. The Marlin likes the striker and the Henry likes the pugnose. Both guns like the Rose. Those big 180's when they contact steel hit hard. I also took out my Ruger with a 5.5 inch barrel. The big 180's bark pretty good in it. But it doesnt shoot them real well. The 158's are a better choice for the pistol. I might try and go down to 11.2 and see what that does but it will be a while before I get that done. Taking all this equipment to the range is work. Portable bench and bags takes time to load and unload. Gonna do some work with the 41's in the future. I shoot more rifle than pistol. Cheers

Good shootin' Al ! Looks like the Rose buds are 1 and Pug's a good number 2. I'll have to try the tennis ball shots one day!

Fun day at the range Al. Marlin needs a red dot I'm thinking. Pugnose and Strikers look close. Have to try the tennis ball thing sometime. Those .357 bullets gonna be heck on 'em when you hit them! Fun day!

Why don't you lower the front site on the remlin?

Could probably do that also. Need to measure the front sight and order one lower that will fit in that front sight dovetail

Here you go Steve. They are from Missouri Cast. Both bullets are coated as you can see in the picture. They are both 180gr. Let me know if you want to see the Roze Bullet but its just a jacketed 158GRHP. You can check it out on the Roze Dist website http://www.rozedist.com/mm5/merchant.mv ... de=ZBJ-38S. I see they are sold out of them also

Ouch! Glad I have a new box of the Strikers. Plenty already loaded, so, I'll sit tight for a while. My LGS is plum out of primers at present. Man, those went fast! Hang in there guys.

One nice think about shooting BP. I have enough of that to carry me through all of this. Still get some trigger time in. I enjoy it as much as I do the smokeless maybe a little more.
