H001 gets another chance

Well, the H001 did pretty good at the range today. I'm happy about that.
To make what should be a short story unnecessarily long, I'd been frustrated with it for quite awhile. This is the same rifle that in 2013, in the depths of the .22 ammo shortage, was my "go to" .22 (it doesn't go through ammo as fast as a semi-auto does). Yet more recently I've found myself shooting it less and less. I just wasn't shooting well at all with the thing. I even tried it with a scope for a bit, but only got more upset, as I couldn't seem to zero it.
So, I put in in the back, to rest and collect dust and cobwebs.
Today, though, the H001 came out of "retirement" and followed me to the range. I was determined to really bear down. To concentrate on my sight picture. To pay attention to my breathing, and to get good let offs on the trigger. And you know what happened? It worked. The first tube full of ammo was rough. But then I settled down, and got serious. And started hitting.
The H001 is still harder for me to shoot well with than my Ruger 10/22. The sights on the Ruger are better, and the Ruger "seems" heavier and steadier than the Henry. Actually, they both weigh the same and are the same length. But the perception is that the Ruger is shorter, stubbier and heavier, while the Henry is slender and lighter.
Bottom line? A good day, and I was happy. But I really should look into getting better sights on my Henry.
