A little range time with the H001

This morning I went out to the sportsmans association and shot at 50 yards. It was 75* with 4mph wind and low humidity. I shot the Henry Classic Lever using Federal Champion .22lr 40 grain solid. I used the factory sights as I don't intend to put any others on it. My eyes are still fairly good with the bifocals and my intention in buying this rifle was for plinking when I go hiking and maybe taking a shot at a squirrel during the season, but I really don't do much squirrel hunting anymore. I shot 15 rounds at each target and was not terribly impressed with the shots at the Birchwood-Casey target but I felt a little better about the rounds shot at my homemade target. Isn't that a beauty! I just put numbers on it to be impressive This was, of course, using a bench rest as I would never try it off-hand at 50 yards with the factory sights and that front post. But, once again, it is that Henry quality in fit, finish and function that impresses me. The rifle is smooth as butter and never missed a beat. It is just fun to shoot. But, as has been mentioned somewhere here before, I think, you can not hold the rifle up at an angle when you cycle it or the round going into the chamber will jam on the edge and you will have to push it down into place with your finger or maybe a pen or small screwdriver. At least this is the way mine works and also the same with my Golden Boy. I find it to be no problem to hold it level while working the lever. You can count the 15 shots in each target, and I know it is hard to see, but there is a hole also in the right side of the number 4 in my homemade target. Those target POIs look just fine for shooting iron sights, especially with the buckhorn, at 50 yards! And you're right that the homemade shows some great results. I'd take them in a minute (or even less). Best of all is a good-working Henry that you enjoy shooting.

BTW, I think that's the first time I've seen a Henry rifle photo where the rifle was resting against a Ruger case!! Cute shot.

Dutch, I'm glad you got to range with your Classic Henry and, of course, had fun shooting! I've never shot at that distance or even outdoors ( mine's an indoor range), but I think your shooting is great given all of the variables at play. Thanks for the pictures and the report. I enjoyed it.

Thanks, I know, I don't own a Henry rifle case but I have several others so I carry it in this Ruger case.

Fresh air and gun smoke...It is a wonderful combination. I like your homemade target maybe you could market them on Ebay.
And the Ruger bag is a great way to protect the Henry from thieves. Everybody has a 10/22 but you know they want a Henry.
