Shooting range trip with my wife

Post by bandit1250 » Fri Jun 24, 2016 4:30 pm

I finally got a trip to the range with my wife. She actually was free until 2:00 hair appointment so off we went. I took the Savage Axis 223 and the Tikka T3 Lite 223. She wanted to shoot her Ruger MK.II 22 with the red dot on it. She had a hard time getting comfortable because some one lowered the shooting bench seat down then broke the handle off and couldn't move the seat. She finally had to set on one of the sand bags then had none for the rear of the pistol. She honestly needs a rest to shoot. First she shot Auto match and she put 7 out of ten in a circle about 2" dia. She said she couldn't see it very good blacked out so the next target I outlined the circle and left the center white. She put 8 out of the ten in the circle and they were closer together but were Blazers instead of Auto match. I also shot a 10 shot group with each ammo. We shot all targets with the Ruger at 30 yds. Then I shot the Axis at 100. I had never fired it before and just bore sighted it. Luckily it was on the target. I moved it a few times to get it closer with the next two rounds. Still wasn't there but good enough for trying loads. Fired four shot groups and the first was 7/8". The next was the 50gr. V-Max and it was 11/16". Last was 50gr. Hornady at 3/4" and it was the old lead tip bullet not the plastic tip. I will now run some of the 50 V-Max through it with a couple different powders. I have plenty of the 50gr. V-Max bullets. I was not feeling to bad about its first trip out and how it did. Onlt two groups with the Tikka because she had to get back in time for her appt. I had some 60gr. H PT to try and they were not very good but the other load with the 4895 and the 60gr. V-Max shot well and has every time I have tried it. Today was four in 5/16". This is great for a sporter weight rifle that does not lay well on bags. This one has a 1lb. trigger that I worked on and it is a great trigger now. Here is todays shooting range victims.

Pistol targets. Left was first. My wife's are the bottom groups mine are the top.Image
The rifle targets shot today with both 223 Remington.Image
Did I say that the road up into the range was a washed out sloppy mess from all the down pours we have been having. It was a wonder I didn't get the old two wheel drive Toyota stuck in that yellow clay.

Glad you and the Mrs. got to spend time on the range. She shoots the Ruger very well and I am sure she would have done better with the seat and rest the way she needed.
It looks like you had the truck parked on a putting green. :D

Nice shooting. It sounds and looks like it was fun.

I always let Donna beat me at the range. Letting her win has fringe benefits.

My daughter shoots our Henrys better than I do. I am just fine with that. :D
