For Shakey Jake... 44 Special vs. .44 Mag SBH Hunter

I see where Shakey Jake is interested in a Ruger .44 Mag revolver so this gives a comparison between Federal .44 Special load and
the Underwood 240 gr. 44 Mag load and you know those are hot! Dueling Tree is the target of abuse along with my hand!
https://youtu.be/B14dMyFT_WQ This was when we were vacationing at a cabin in mountains of Ga. with a private range on property some years ago.
Never say never....I sold the nice Ruger SBH Hunter to get something else some years later since it was THEN my only .44 shooter and some years after that picked up the used Ruger blued SBH .44 Mag revolver.

having done so, I know full well what firing a full power 44 Mag load out of a western style revolver feels like ... that was one tough dueling tree .... I've seen a 44 Mag take one apart

I bought that tree that same year from Action Targets I believe and it is built very heavy. I actually cut the tree in half and then added mounting tabs and bolts for assembling on site. Also built a removable dolly for it for ease of transporting around.

LOL, I love it. I think that poor tree is lucky to stay vertical. Thank you for posting.
I like to describe a full house .480R bear defense load out of a SRH Alaskan as “capable of starting avalanches”.... both from the muzzle blast and from the impact at the target. I would only shoot those while wearing a heavy gel bicycle glove and an orthopedic steel thumb brace from the drug store.
It puts a different twist on the term “self abuse”....

Picture of dolly setup. You pull the 2 pins and roll out the wheels. I hauled that and 100 lbs. of other steel in the back of our Ford Edge 7 hrs. to the Ga. Mountains for our week vacation. Loved it!!

.
I have one similar. Not on wheels, but it does disassemble from the base to ease carry. I also have a set of smaller diameter paddles. The tree leans towards the shooter so that bullet debris is deflected into the ground. Not for use with high powered/spear point ammo like .223. I've since shot accidental holes in the tree. Hitting the paddles head on with the .223 doesn't hurt them, but the glancing hits takes nicks out of the edge of the paddles.
