I have two 1948 521T Remington's and one of them is usually in the back of the safe. Well today I moved enough of the front ones to get it out and shoot it some. It is a factory peep sight rifle with a Lyman 57 RS sight and a Lyman 17A front. This is my nicest of four 521T's my wife and I have but is the least accurate and never gets much attention. I need to put this thing through some different ammo and find what it likes and try some different pressure points to see how it reacts to some changes. I shot it today with three CCI Standards of different lot #'s and three Norma Tac different lot #'s. It shot both brands about equal. This is the rifle and it is probably in the 90% range on bluing and wood. Pawn shop gun that was probably put there by a kid that got Dad's or Grand pap's gun.

This is todays target at 35 yds. with some wind changing directions while I was shooting. All are only 5 shot groups. CCI Standard lot # marked T59 always seems to be the best on paper the few times I have shot this rifle. I have some other lots I can try.

Nice shootin'. Tell me more about the sights on it. Looks like a Parker Hale.

That is pretty darn good shooting for the worst of the lot. Looking forward to seeing what it can do when you find the right food it likes.

I know very little about bolt action rifles, but that sure looks like a beauty for an "old gal"....

The sights are Lyman. The rear is a click adjustable 57RS and was the factory sight that came on the 521T. The front is a 17A Lyman that some say was optional but I put it on mine. They are a really nice sight and has the easy detach button on the rear to allow bolt removal. It also has a return to zero screw that when set it goes right back to zero when having it off and putting it back down in the base until the set screw hits the mounting base. They have nice positive clicks and I seem to shoot as well with these as the more pricey Redfield's I have on my 513 Remington's. Here is a few pictures of one off the rifle. Rear sight with the inserts for the Lyman 17A front.

Sight out of the base mount. You can see the small set screw by the adjuster for elevation that sets the return to zero.

Thanks for the sight info. Have you tried Lee Shaver inserts for the 17A?

Yes I have a set of the Shaver inserts. They give a lot of options and the only thing I had a problem with was some Lyman 17A fronts didn't want to hold them as tight in the notches when installed. I really shot well the few times I used the one with the cross hair in it. The post with the small bead would work possibly in the woods hunting. Have to try it some time on these chewing pest chipmunks. I have my favorites and never even used the others. Need any? I think I remember where they are located in my stuff.

I like the Shaver small bead and small peep inserts. My Mare's Leg has the small bead insert. The Shaver peep inserts have a smaller peep on them which makes it nice for bench work but its hard to find a target sometimes.
