Pics of the fist rounds thru the 45/70.
I fired 4 rds of Federal Fusion 300 gr. HP @ 25 yds ( pic on top ), then 4 rds of my reloads, Hornady 300 gr. HP, Starline brass, IMR 4198 powder 41grs. , bottom pic.
Really impressed with the results right out of the box, no adjustments made, maybe fine tune later. Recoil was no problem.
Everything functioned well, love the trigger. Happy dude, LOL

Nice shots! Sometimes they are dialed in right out the box!! I have never tried 4198 in my .45-70 loads.
I use either IMR 3031 or Unique for light loads.

Thanks, Randy & forty. I was surprised at how the different loads shot. A bit disappointed in the Federals. Fusion was advertised as great. Maybe so, but not in this particular rifle. I had no idea how the reloads would do. I took the middle ground on the low & hi end of the Hornady book, and came up with that to start. Think I'll stay there.
On the Federals, I think I pulled that low shot. The reloads had 3 in one continuous hole, one in the red.
Shot a couple of rounds at a oil bottle. That thing jumped about 8 ft in the air.
I put a Limb saver on the recoil pad just in case, wasn't necessary. Recoil not as much as expected.
Bottom line, well pleased, fun to shoot. I am feeling better, still not out of the woods yet, but I've had this several times; takes a long time for it to go completely away.
Now, waiting on my free Henry case, LOL

Looks Good Grunt. Try 16gr of universal clays and a 350 Berrys if you have some. Another one I like is 36 of 3031 and a 405.

Well that buffalo would have X's in his eyes with that kinda shootin!!
Out of the box I had to drift the rear sight to the right and raise it to the mid notch.
Connecting 3 shots is mighty impressive with the reloads.

Thanks, Moe, I'll definitely keep that load. Surprised the heck out of me, actually. Had no idea how that would work. Guess I need to go but a lottery ticket, LOL.
