I got over to an indoor range today as outside temp was near 100* with heavy-duty humidity. But the indoor range was hot, too, even though it's ventilated and large floor fans are going. Just a hot day all around...I verified that with a very hot revolver barrel!!

Simple goals today.
~As always, to have fun, which I did.
~"Tested" the D/A trigger pull. I had a trigger job done this weekend (by a gunsmith). The Ruger SP101 D/A trigger is now 9lbs from its original 12lbs. Quite a difference, and much easier to shoot!

Ammo.
I just selected some ammo I know runs well out of the revolver.
~.357 Magnum Fiocchi 142gr FMJTC -- 10 rounds
~.357 Magnum Rem Golden Sabre 125gr JHP -- 15 rounds
~.38 Special + "P" Rem 125gr semi-JHP -- 25 rounds.

Total of 50 very "hot" rounds today.

Targets.
~Two 12"X18" splash targets.
~One "made-up" paper target -- a 9"X14" head at top of silhouette (snatched it from the trash can after another person shot it!)

Bullet holes down range.

Oval Splash. POIs = 20/20 at 7 yards. Shot only .38 Special + "P" ammo here.
Again, I wasn't concentrating on ammo or POIs -- only on how to handle the new D/A trigger pull.
Silhouette Splash. 20/24 POIs in target; 4 rounds in white; 1 round in bullet trap. Shot 10 rounds of .38 Special + "P" ammo & 15 rounds of .357 Magnums.

Two POA areas: 15 rounds toward body; 10 rounds toward head. The two POIs in 7-line near neck were "shared" -- shot one toward head and one toward body.
Paper Yellow Head.
Set this final target at 4 yards and tried shooting from the hip. (We're not allowed to do a holster draw, so just held revolver at belt height and shot). As long as my first shot hits in target, I'm usually good with 5/5. And I did just fine with this five-round group as seen in the two black circles. My first POI was the very left hit by number 8. The remaining four went in okay, too. Just ignore the .22 holes from the other shooter! Although we're also not allowed to rapid fire, I pushed it a little on this hip shooting. It was fun to do this today!!

About as "hot" as they get! That's another great report, PT7., including goals, intentions, results, and satisfaction! I'm glad you're happier with the adjustment to the trigger. Your report confirms it. I've never tried shooting from the hip! But, I will next time! Very cool.

So you think you are a big hot shot now? I don't think I've ever shot when it was that hot. Well as least not lately.

Glad you got in the trigger time. I understand the hot indoor range all too well. They have the Air filtration system running at the range I use. But no AC and they used to have floor fans, but OSHA shut them down. Can't use them because they stir up the lead dust. So I try to keep my range time to 30 minutes max. Or go when the outside temps are well under 90. Which means my range time is fixing to get drastically reduced till September.

Yup, how did you know? There was maybe a twinge of feeling like a "hot shot" on the hip shooting. I've only done that 4 or 5 times with either my SP101 revolver or the S&W 637 .38 Special + P" snubby I used to have. I've surprised myself how easy it is to hip shoot. One never knows....if ever a close encounter of the unpleasant kind occurs....

The other hot stuff was the brass and barrel. When I opened the cylinder to drop the shells and reload, the brass felt like it was burning my palm.
That's when I checked the barrel. It was very hot, too. So I decided to only run 5 to 10 rounds through, then let the revolver cool for a while.

I ran 600 rounds down the Mare's Leg yesterday and burnt my finger on the barrel. And I have a blister working the lever so much.

Whoa!! At 600 rounds per one range visit, I wouldn't be shooting much longer at all, that's for sure!

That's nothing. In 2001 or so I bought a case of Winchester Wildcats and a friend and I shot them all in one day. We each had a 10/22 and lots of magazines. I had six pre-ban 25 rounders and thought I was in heaven. I paid $88 out the door for the case at a gunshow.
