For those who don't reload, and those who do
Got some new 200 grain coated SWC bullets for .45 ACP in this week. Loaded up a bunch with a mid load of Trail Boss and went to the range today to see how they did with my new Springfield XDe. Note: I've already put a box or so of factory through it. Worked well enough.
Man what a difference using my own reloads makes. Recoil in a 3.3 inch barrel gun with a polymer frame is very manageable with factory, but my low recoil reloads are a real pleasure to shoot. Accuracy was way up as well. Might have been because of the lower recoil, might have been the ammo was inherently more accurate, or maybe the moon was in the seventh house. For whatever reason, I had none of the flyers I was having with the factory stuff. 5 shot groups were one ragged hole at 7 yds. Note, the actual bullet holes weren't all touching, but the somewhat larger tearout holes were.
Anyway, I was a happy camper. I've been unhappy with my striker fired gun for a while and thought I would go to a hammer fired EDC. Decided to make the switch to .45 at the same time. I've grown to love .45 since I got a 1911 a few years back. I only carry 7 or 8 rounds, but I figure each .45 is worth two 9mm.

I've had mine for a while and really like it. It's a nice compact, for a .45, pistol that's easy to carry has great sights and shoots very well.
My main carry gun and my load of the 230 gr. XTP bullet with 6.4 gr. of Unique works very well!

That's pretty good expansion-especially for around 950 fps.

Speaking of 1911s and 45 auto, one of my goals for this shooting year is to do more work with our 1911s. For sure, I am primarily a revolver shooter and always will be, but I can't ignore the fact that I get along with the 1911 platform so well.
