since the Mid '60's the above load has been our hunting and range load .... it has been used effectively for hunting Black Bear, Boar, and Whitetail Deer .... game has been taken while shooting Ruger Redhawk, Ruger Blackhawk, and Ruger semi automatic Carbine .... it is the only round we fire in our Henry CCH 44 Mag .... today we fired 124 rounds

the first target shows 15 rounds fired at 50 yards ... while firing it a couple of different, two click adjustments were made to the scope's elevation and windage settings ....

the second target shows the next 50 rounds at 50 yards .... once again, while firing them a couple of small adjustments were made

the third target shows the last 20 rounds fired .... no adjustments were made

I consider this rifle to be a 100 yard gun .... the next time I take it to the range, I intend to raise the elevation to zero it about 1" high at 50 yard... doing so will result in if being about that high at 100 yards .... today was a fun one, looking forward to the next

Not seeing those targets, but hopefully will soon.

Yeah, even though I no longer hunt with a 44 mag handgun, I still consider a 44 mag revolver to be an essential part of our collection.

That is some very good shooting indeed! I'd leave that one be. In that last pic of you Jim, is that a Ruger No. 1 on your left? That Redhawk is serious looking medicine. Good day at the range.

kind words appreciated .... it belongs to John (Shakey Jake) .... what I do know about it is, its an excellent shooter and has one heck of a muzzle blast

That's my Ruger No 1 in 25-06. Shoots better than I do. Going to load up some of those bullets you sent me this morning.

Excellent! I have one Ruger No.1 left; my 30-06. If I ever go elk or deer hunting again, that's the one going. Enjoy your No.1 Jake, they're great rifles.

kind words appreciated .... as to trimming brass, what I do doesn't reflect the textbook recommendations ..... for hunting ammo I use new brass from Starline .... for all other nonhunting ammo, I'm still reloading Winchester, Winchester Western, Remington Police, Remington, Federal, and Peter's brass first fired back in the 60's .... in all that time, I've only found it necessary to trim a handful of brass .... every round (hunting and practice) is individually crimped .... so long as the crimp is within the bullet's crimp ring, I don't worry about it .... now the textbook answer it to keep them trimmed to SAMMI specs .... doing so is most certainly best practice

JABar,Thanx for your quick reply. I've been trimming my 44 mag. brass to 1.275". The Hornady manual (8th. ed.), states up to 1.280" max. The reason for my inquiry, I'd like to reload the 270g.(.429) Speer for my Ruger bolt action 77/44 as a bear/hog round. I figured the case length would be a good place to start and work it up my reloadings from there .
