It's been a messy day misty rain all morning, this afternoon it was off and on.
But I did manage a little trip over to the barn.

Trying out a few pugnose that's been all the rave.
Had some a buddy made from an accurate mold 180's.
The pugnose was loaded with 11.5 grs 2400, and the others 9.4 Blue dot. These bullets are quite similar.

Then I tried some 8.5 Unique with a 255 fn.
A 7.4 gr Red dot with a 200 fn
And 10.0 gr Unique with a 255 fn.
6 shots

I did do 6 more of each a couple were a little better the others about the same.
No pic because of the rain, sorry

Right before the rain I did manage an one knee shoot.
Was 50 yds. 11 assorted rounds, 200 to 255, and who knows what loads most were mild and a couple not so much.

Not to bad I thought.

Pug nose looks the best to me. Just have to make a windage adjustment. I have some of those coming soon!
Where did you find your load data for the cast 180's?

Well the BD is something I worked up some years back, but never did tweak it.
But I was consistently hitting a 4' gong with it.
The 2400 I stole from one of you guys.
11.4 was the target but I kept dropping 11.5 so I just went with it.

I had some lubed not PC'd 180's that I wanted to try but I ran out of time.
81 rounds of fun anyway, need to check the tumbler.
Gonna load up some more pugs.

Im like Forty those Pugs will hit the gong consistently to. I bet if that was a scoped gun that group would be a lot tighter. Whats the distance there Randy 50 yards.

Iron sights, 50 yards with some new loads= pretty darn good! I'm going to TRY and get out today with the .45 Colt.

I got my data from the Lyman #4 Cast Bullet manual. It goes from 11.1gr 2400 to 12.3gr 2400. I just settled on 11.5 and it works.

I just got in from the range. My standard load of 8.0gr Unique/250gr RBFP coated or plain worked superbly, especially with that new Leupold 2-7 shotgun scope. To be honest, I don't believe the 50 yard range is that; seems closer to 40 yards. This was at the pistol range, as we can shoot handgun caliber rifles there. I was able to transfer to the rifle area and set out at 75 yards. Ohh, things opened up a bit, so brought it in to their 50 yard mark[and it IS 50 yards!] and the loads came back. That was the only rifle I shot this morning. My two Henry's are dialed in. Time to fool around with my 30-30 and some cast 165's from Missouri. Try as I might, I CANNOT load pictures. I gotta find a 12 year old kid to show me. It was a good shoot tho.

Back over there today, just a little more 45's.
Same 50 yds, 9.0, 9.5, and 10.0 of unique and those 255's.
Looks like the 9.5's were the best.

Then back to the 180's, 11.2 and 11.4 of 2400 is really shaping up. I shot a few of those lubed 180's also, 11.4 in those may be a hair tighter group.
But I don't have many of those left. lol.

Glad you like those 180 Pugnose/2400. It is a good combo. Al's got a pic or two of my targets I shot today. I only shot the .45. Good shooting Randy.

And because I haven't shot her in a while I drug the ole MX out, dusted it off and loaded a few rounds.
Well I couldn't find my load sheet, but knew it was near max. So I load 5 rds. at max, 5 .2's less, and 5 at .4's less.
75 yds., not much difference between 42.2 and 42.4, but the all shot like 3"high, the first I aimed at the bullseye and hit the top of the paper.
The other two I aimed at the bottom of paper.
Forgot to say, those were 170 gr Sierra Pro Hunters.

Nice job there Randy. MC sells those bullets also lubed. If you think you would rather go that way.

Al, I'll probably just stay with the coated ones, good to know they do though.
As long as I can hit the 100 yd gongs regularly I'll be ok.
Who knows I might try to get another deer with it at some point.
They should do that well enough.
Nice shootin Tom.

Thanks a ton Al. I need to get back to the range at an honest 50 yards. Have an idea those loads will be fine tho. They seem to be very consistent.
Have to think the new scope helps a bunch. Man, I really like that .45 Colt combo. Thanks again Al. Much appreciated.
