New to the forum - but not new to Henry

Got my son a Youth Model .22 lever when he was 10. He’s 26 now and he still shoots that rifle on a regular basis. And it’s more accurate than a 16” .22 should be. Since then I’ve wanted a Henry for myself. Then when they came out with the single shots I REALLY wanted a Henry. Then I received a gift certificate as a gift from out of the blue and I got my chance. Ordered and picked up a .243 single shot. I wanted a light recoil whitetail rifle. Got it home and after a close inspection decided it was nicer than I’d hoped. I had a Nikon shotgun scope (2.5X7) sitting on a .17 HMR - figured I’d borrow that to see what it could do. Headed out to the range with a box of Federal Fusions (95 grain). Took two shots from fifty yards to make sure it was on paper. Then three shots from 100. Walking up to the target after three shots I was expecting around three inches or so for a group - hoping for two. The two high shots were the two quick ones at 50. The lower three shot group was from 100. To say I was happy may be an understatement - giddy may be a better word. Now all I need is a four legged volunteer.

It’ll be used for whitetail and possibly some yotes. Not really sure i’ll do handloads. I do load for handguns but that’s much simpler than necked cases. If the rifle even comes close to this with a variety of factory fodder, it’ll be more than good enough for 200 yard deer.

Welcome to the forum from the TV, Oregon!
Federal Fusion is the best shooting ammo I've found so far. Very nice to read you're 'giddy' happy with your Henry!

over the years I've deer hunted with a good many folks who used 243's .... they liked its mild recoil and relatively flat trajectory ... as is pretty much standard, shot placement is critical .... the good news is, the 243's I've seen were very accurate .... looking forward to your range reports as you get better acquainted with your Henry and your hunting reports as well
