Finally got to the range. Shooting my Henry 1860 in 45 Colt. Factory ammo today, Sellier & Bellot 250 gr LFN. It is very nice ammo and I have quite a bit of it stored away. This is not my best 50 yard work nor my worst. Considering the conditions. 50mph wind today and 40F. But as I have said in other posts, you get what you get here so shoot or stay home.

I was able to get my windage figured out somewhat, but elevation was a tough manage. The bullet drop on that big lead in that wind is noticeable on the target. Got some corrected but not all. I was shooting from 1-knee position as I often do. 50 rounds, open sights. Will clean the rifle tomorrow and maybe try some handloads if it stays windy like this.

off hand, 50 mph wind, 40 degrees --- outstanding as usual ..... I'd appreciate hearing your comments on reloading Sellier & Bellot brass .. .. do you use their primers ..

S&B brass can be tricky, I use Winchester primers and you have to check that they seat properly. 9 out of 10 are fine....but always check them.

If those targets were mine and I shot them on a warm day with no wind, I'd be thrilled. Thanks for yet another reason to get to the range more often.

my concern centers around wondering if their primers are slightly smaller than standard .. .. I can buy them cheaper than CCI's but if they aren't standard size I can foresee problems using them with standard brass

Interesting. I have not used or seen their primers for sale here. It is a tight fit for the Winchester primer. I have never tried CCI. S&B and Hornady brass are both a little different to reload.

50 mph winds? Don't know too many shooters who would even try with those winds, but, then, you are definitely not an average shooter. Very impressive, RR.

Haha...think it was only 30mph until I got to the range...it's pretty wide open there. It was definitely Mary Poppins weather.
There were 2 young gals there shooting as well, they work for Parks Canada and were up from Waterton/Glacier Park to practice with their .22's. They shot about 25 yds from off hand standing, sitting and prone positions. Very enthusiastic shooters!

That breeze probably kept it cool.
Nice shootin by the way, 50 mph, I'd just stayed home.

Way back when in the American West, whenever the cowboys went out on the hunt for supper meat, they didn't wait for the wind to settle down. Do it or go hungry. If you ever did get caught "stuck" out in the wide open countryside for whatever reason, RR, you would enjoy a feast. As long as you kept a fire going in those winds!!

True enough, I have shot in all kinds of weather, so I guess that does help you figure out your rifle's cans and can't do's.
