Range Report: SGC offhand

Post by Sir Henry » Tue Jun 07, 2016 8:22 pm

Well another Tuesday which means range day which means a range report. I shot my SGC with a Lyman Globe and Skinner receiver base with a Steven's No 105 peep. Here is my range setup setup at 25 yards which was where I shot everything. The pistol is an Uberti Cattleman which I plinked with between rifle sets.

My first six targets were shot offhand and averaged 2 to 2 1/2" Never did get a good small group with a few flyers. Every target seemed to have the rounds spread evenly. But then I kneeled and got some sub-inch groups if not for a flyer or two which brought them back out to 2". One target was .753" counting only eight of ten shots. It was the only target worth showing but I ended up putting another target over it.

One of the guys brought a Remington Model 4-S which was remarkable. We both shot some HV shorts in it. It was made for shorts and longs. It was made before long rifle ammo so we couldn't shoot that and I haven't seen longs in decades.

You (we) did okay selecting the SGC and shooting off-hand today! But my selection was easy because it's the only Henry rimfire I have!
BTW, I forgot to try the kneeling stance today. Got to remember to do that.

Very nice picture of the Rem Model 4-S (Military model). I've never seen one, and I guess they're rare enough that the chances are slim I will. I bet it was fun to shoot. ;)

I met the guy with the Military Model one day last week and told him a few of us shot on Tuesdays and then went to lunch. He said he would bring an old Remmy but I had no idea it was this special. His grandfather bought it new and he has shot it since he was eight years old.

Nice report and an interesting roller. Too bad I don't live closer, I have a box of .22 longs.

Thanks for the report, the pics, and the story about that fellow's Remington. I've been taking my revolvers to the range along with my Henry's and alternate shooting them, too. It doubles the fun and kicks it up a notch.
