H009 6-3-2016: Have Had Better Days

Post by ditto1958 » Fri Jun 03, 2016 7:36 pm

Shot a bunch of steel today at 100 yards with the H009 and Remington Corelokt 170 grain ammo. It was a beautiful day, and I enjoyed it, but I have had better shooting days with the Henry. I hauled out my Blackhawk and had fun blasting away with some .357 magnums, and for some reason I was doing much better with the revolver.

I hate to make excuses (oh, who am I trying to fool- I enjoying making excuses) but I have been using Federal ammo lately, and my Henry likes it. I decided to use up some of the Remington, and it may not shoot as well in my Henry. At least that's my story.

It's funny how some ammo seems just right. Mine likes the Winchester 250 gr. Oh well, you were shooting and that's the main thing! :)

interesting to hear about your Henry having such a strong ammo preference .... so far, neither of ours has shown much of a preference .... that said, we haven't tried all that many different brands .... guess we could have gotten lucky

Without bad days the good days would just be another day. I just wish I wouldn't have so many bad days myself. I've found that if you go right back at it the next day you usually will do a lot better.

There have been days at the range when I could not miss a steel plate with a 1911, other days its like I couldn't hit a big barn. If I let too much time go in between range visits or if I don't get some dry firing in, my shooting suffers.

I find if I can go to the range once a week and in that week also do some dry firing I do really good, let about 3 to 4 weeks go by with no range time and no dry firing and it gets ugly. :D

One reason I need to get serious about reloading. I don't mind spending money on ammo at all and I stock up, but if I reloaded I would probably shoot more than I do now.
